Francis FC were officially launched last Tuesday night in the Silken Thomas pub in Francis Street. The Tallaght Echo reports that "the new club grew out of the dissatisfaction at the threatened loss of identity that came with the amalgamation of St Francis and Saint Patrick's Athletic to form Dublin Saints".
The new side is looking to be placed in the Major Sunday of the Leinster Senior League. Leaving them on the doorstep of Intermediate. They will be managed by Mick O' Brien and Thomas Kennedy and already boast a squad of 25 players.
However the majority of the old Saint Francis National League squad were not interested in playing for a side below Intermediate level and the new club has had to look elsewhere for players.
The club will go back to the old days of Francis in many ways as they will play home games in Dolphin's Park, where current Bohemians boss Pete Mahon used to put the old Francis teams through their paces.
