July 18th, 2001 - SAINTS OFF TO WINNING START AS
LATE GOALS SECURE DESERVED WIN
Report on Stpatsfc.com of Saints First Friendly
A cracking 30-yard free kick from striker Michael Holt, four minutes from the end, sealed a deserved win for The Supersaints at Richmond Park tonight in a hard fought encounter against English side Northampton Town. Just minutes earlier substitute Jamie Harris had drawn the sides level after a goalmouth scramble, to cancel out Derek Asamoah's strike for the visitors midway through the second half.
For captain Kieran Foley, making his debut in the red and white, it was a night of mixed fortunes as the centre-half required four stitches to a cut above the eye. But with the 'Dublin Saints' recording a win in their first outing of the new season, manager Pat Dolan was happy with the work-out: "I thought we performed very well and showed great application - throughout the squad - right to the end. We fully deserved our victory and we'll be looking to build on this with the visit of Crewe next Tuesday night."

Ground works have progressed at Richmond with an excellent surface layed in the walkways from the turnstiles to the Shed. The Camac side and the turnstile end were closed off on the night as work has yet to be completed on the Camac Side. Fans were generally pleased with the new surface but many are obviously anxious that the Camac side would be completed in time for the league season.
