Andy O'Callaghan, St Pats stadium announcer and the key financial consultant in the merger talks with St. Francis has issued this statement on the Independent Saints Message Board in response to recent questions from a member of Independent Saints:
1) Is the merger with Francis on the rocks or is it definitely off?
The merger is not off. A number of people within St Francis have concerns and we are working with them to sort things out. Both the Indo last Sat and the Herald this Sat were talking rubbish. If that changes, we will issue a proper statement.
2)Is there any truth in the rumour that Dolan is leaving the club for pastures new?
No. Pat is more fired-up than ever about the club. This talk of Galway is also rubbish.
3)I noticed that you called the team Supersaints and not Dublin Saints,was that a slip of the tongue or is it club policy???
I think most people know my views on this - I prefer the name SuperSaints. Club policy is to promote the club, pure and simple. I don't care if people call us the SuperSaints, the Dublin Saints or the Euro Saints as long as it's helping to promote the club. It would be very unwise to allow the name SuperSaints die. It is a recognised (dare I say 'brand'?) name and I am happy to promote both names. Most clubs have many nicknames (for those who claim allegience to the English game, I can think of at least 5 nicknames for the club with whom Shelbourne do business). I wonder if I said 'the Dublin SuperSaints' would that accomodate the views of those who want me to say 'SuperSaints' and those who want me to say 'Dublin Saints'? I don't mind, so long it's use is needed to announce tomorrow's goals!!
