St Patrick's Athletic were never tested in an easy win over relegated Monaghan United at Century Homes Park today.
The scoring opened with a corner on the left wing that in the fifth minute. Mbabzi Livingstone swung a corner from the left underneath the Monaghan bar and Ger McCarthy got the touch to put it in the back of the net.
Again it was from a corner that St Pat's made it two nil in the 23rd minute. Livingstone once again supplied the delivery from the left, as Colm Foley nodded home.
Pats wrapped up the first half in the 40th minute, when McCarthy outpaced the Monaghan defence to a long ball up the middle and ran on to beat home goalkeeper John Brown.
The second half was a sparkiling affair, with good football from the saints. Philip Hughes raced clear of the defence to score the fourth in the 86th minute and in the 75th minute when McCarthy got clear with a good chance of completing his hat-trick but he shot just over the bar.
