The Waiting

He's sitting in the restaurant
Where they agreed to meet.
The candle on the table
Is burned out.
He's holding a small box
Tied with a blue ribbon.
Her favorite colour.
He's been waiting there
For hours.
In 15 years
She's never been late.
Something must be keeping her.
Traffic.
Work.
Something.

Three blocks away
Lights flash.
Voices hush.
Faces blur.
Soon all is quiet.
Nothing could be done.
