Samhain

Also called...

Samhain (pronounced sow-en) is the time when the days grow shorter and winter is on it's way. Samhain is the celebration of the witches' New Year, when we say goodbye to the God as he dies and wait for his rebirth. We lay the Goddess down to sleep, and enjoy this time when the veil between this plane and the next is thinnest. This is the perfect time for seances, honoring one's ancestors, or simply feasting with your loved ones. Late Autumn fruits such as pumpkins and squash appear around people's homes, used in rituals in order to thank the dearly departedand make peace with them. Depending on a coven's tradition, this can either be a very solumn or a very joyous occasion. Burying apples or other crops in the earth is a common tradition to give and offering to the dead.
