Yule is the celebration that begins in December 21, marking the shortest day and longest night of the year. This Sabbat celebrates the rebirth of the God who is reborn with the returning sun. You will notice that the days only grow longer after the God is born. Yule is a celebration of family, friends, and food. Gift giving is one of the most rampant traditions of this time, one that was adopted by Judeo-Christian traditions with their respective celebrations of Hanukkah and Christmas. Mistletoe is another important tradition, since mistletoe is a plant that brings love and fertility. Evergreens decorate homes around the community, created into what Wiccans call a Yule Trees, which are decorated with fruit, candy, ribbons, and other decorations.
