Three masked men attacked a couple at Corentyne, Berbice on Sunday night and chopped the husband with a cutlass before robbing them of an undisclosed sum of money and jewellery.

Police say that Gaitrie Winjeccon, 26, and her reputed husband, Imran Beekam were asleep when they were awakened by a sound coming from a window. On investigating, they were confronted by the men in their home.

One of the men was armed with a handgun and one with a cutlass. After robbing the couple the men made good their escape.

Beekam was treated at a hospital and sent home.
