Stage 2: Forming a Strategy
From interviews with 2.70 veterans and video viewings, I gathered a list of qualities that would make my machine and me very happy. Studbert needed to be mobile since I had the urge to make it very interactive. It needed a bin to collect balls and a device that would allow the balls to score in either the top or lower hole. Defense and offensive tactics I had, but in heeding the wise words of the old ("Keep it Simple Stupid!") , they were left brewing in the back of my mind, to emerge quite later in the design process.
Showcased above is one of my more primitive conceptions. Evident even in these early stages is the basic idea of a moving bin with a front ball guide, a back ball guide and some sort of linkage that would serve to lift the bin. The geometry is not quite there yet. Studbert would look back at its predecessor with sense of gratefulness, grateful that it was outlived.
Above, in more detail, are the mechanisms of prototype1.
