Colorado Springs

Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman takes place approximately 1867-1873. Here's look at that the real Colorado Springs (and Colorado itself) was at before that time during it, and a little beyond.

Colorado had few settelers until the late 1850's. then, in 1858, prospetors found gold along Cherry Creek, near present-day Denver. Gold hunters rushed t the area. "Pike's Peak or Bust" became the slogan of the prospectors as the traveled the long, hard trail to Colorado. About 100,000 people had reached the area at the height of the rush(1859) but more then half turned back when gold proved too difficult to find.

Indins and whites fought mandy important clashes and three important battles during the 1860s and 1870s. In 1864, Sank Creek Massacre. In 1868, Arikaree River. In 1879, Meeker Massacre.
Only one of these battles was mentioned in DQ. The other mention, the battle at Washita, did not actually take place in Colorado.

In 1870, the Denver Pacific Railroad linked dener wth the main line of the Union Pacifc at Cheyenne, Who. This line connected Colorado and the East. The Kansas Pacififc built it's line to Denver later in 1870.

Colorado Springs was founded in 1871.

Colorado was admitted to the Union on August 1, 1876. Territorial governor John L. Routt was elected as first state governor.
