I remember when I found life to be exciting and enjoyable... back when I was growing up, life was so new, fresh and exciting to me... but now that I've seen so much, I find waking up every day a pain, knowing that I've got to go through another boring day. It's the same boring thing, day after day, and it seems like there's nothing new left for me to experience... What is the point of life? Why are we here?

Anyway, on to the mess this world's in now... It seems that everyone is out for themselves- it's rare that I will see anyone do something out of the kindness of their heart for anyone, without expecting anything in return. Now don't get me wrong, I've seen some great people in my life, people that renew your faith that there really are nice people out there, but the majority of people I see are cold and uncaring. In fact, I would describe myself just as that. It's a horrible thing if you actually think about it, but sadly it's true. I try to be the opposite, always trying to be polite and caring, but...

It's sad that in today's world, it's considered "cool" by teenagers to insult other kids and put them down. The people who are the real "cool" kids are actually the ones who are nice, caring, smart people, and will actually treat you respectfully, and as a friend. If you actually take the time to become friends with them, you will see that there's more to being "cool" than insulting others etc. Once again, I find myself on the wrong side of the scale. Just the other day, I was with my friends, and they were making remarks on a kid who had a disability, and had recently died in a fire, unable to save herself. I joined in, thinking it was "cool". When I look back on it, I can't believe that I would do such a thing to be considered "cool" by a buck of people who have no respect for another person's life, especially one that had a disability. I don't even know why I'm friends with those people.

People also take many things for granted, as I see litter all around the place. Gone are the days where people would actually care for the earth. Again, I'm one of those people. "Oh well, I won't be around for the future of the earth, so who cares?" is usually my response to those things... There is graffiti everywhere, and you can't have anything nice, or it will get stolen. You hear people swearing, no one is civil anymore...
Again, I swear, litter, and show disregard for others. I am no role model. I want to change, but how? Where do I start?

No one takes their children to church anymore. I go to a catholic high school, with about 1700 kids, and probably 50-100 go to church regularly. Again, I try to do this as much as I can. It's not considered "cool" to talk about religion in my group of friends, other than how boring it is, etc.

Why are kids are considered "nerds" if they do well in school. I am getting a 94% in my academic math class, and I was called a nerd. Same for studying for a test or exam. I just want to do well in life. Does that make me a nerd? Don't people understand that we are the future of this sad world?

There are wars all over the place, killing millions of innocent people. When will this stop? Once we destroy the world?

It's not cool to be seen with your parents, who raised you, cared for you, and love you. Yeah, that's not "cool" at all... </sarcasm>. Why is it cool to smoke? Once again I find myself with these views, doing these things. Why? Why am I like this?

As I have said before, I am no role model. I find myself guilty of most of these things and more, and I am aware of the problem this world is in, yet I am a part of the problem myself.

Another thing, most people only care about the physical aspect of people, not the personality or intelligence. It's only if they are hot or not. Why is this?

I am tired of being in this world. It's too depressing, yet I go on. Why? Is there a heaven? Is there a God? How can we be sure? What proof is there?

I know this is long, and these are Internet message boards. Why am I posting this? I want to share my views with you, that's all. You may not agree with me, or think that there's something wrong with me for posting this and saying what I say. I understand. I also understand that there are people out there that are the exact opposite of everything I described here, and I'm glad. But the truth is that most of the world is like or close to this.

All I know is that I'm sure I'll be happy someday, somewhere...

If I had to review the earth and it's people, I'd give it a 0.5/10.
I would give it a 0, but the people that I know who are exactly opposite of all this give me a small hope that there is some good left in the world. Funny that I'm such a critic when I'm part of the problem, isn't it...

It's a pretty sad world we live in... and it's only getting worse...

Partially agreed, partially not. I won't go into things, since I don't want to go get Viva's account modded while I'm sitting it.

But yes, it is a shame of the world's present condition.

Yes, I do not understand why it's cool to pick and put down other people. I don't get it. Maybe it's a sign of power, dominance.

What would you prefer, to be mean and cruel to some people and have some people like you while other people hate you're guts? Or would you prefer to be a nice, decent, caring person and have nearly everybody that you personally know like you? I know that sounded a little confusing but I hope you know what I mean.

I get it.
I would prefer to be nice to everyone, but in my case, that doesn't always happen. I try to always be nice, and I try to only become rude and angered after the person does something to provoke me, not before.

Hmm, this would be a nice board for rants against humanity...

On-topic, I understand your pessimism completely; people seem to becoming more and more introverted as time goes on, but maybe it's just me imagining it. You should do just ignore the ignorant people (or give them a piece of your mind at every possible opportunity >_<) and concentrate on the many people that do care about where things are heading.

You should also do as much as you can to help others. Buy fairtrade goods for instance, I often doubt whether this makes a difference but it's worth a shot isn't it?

I, too, am account-sitting.

However, I'll say- you have a fine style of writing. I've written things similar to your first posts, Doc. People often comment that they wish they had ability like that, or that they I should become a writer. It seems like something you do well with passion, so just as a heads up, look into it.

I agree with what was said, and I'm generally the same as far as being a thug among thugs. But I really hate misanthropes and I think that people should try to do better. The thing is... while I realize I should do better, I really don't care to. In fact, I don't even intend to. I just believe that everyone else should do so. Just a sign of how weak I am when it comes to being a real human being.

So many times... I wish I were not here. Either non-existant or in some time long ago. But, unfortunately, the truth is that no time period was ever blessed with any better people than we have right now. So everyone just has to do what they have to do. And, because the easiest thing to do in a bad situation is just fall in, that's what we do.

I just don't understand our existence on this earth. Are there others out there like us? If there aren't, then what happens when we all die off. I know it will happen some day, not soon, but some day, and then what? If there are other life forms out there, which I think is true, are they or different, advanced in technology etc., or behind?
Why are we here?
Is there a purpose, or are we here to do nothing other than try to survive?
I'm filled with questions that I know are answer less, and it bothers me to no end that I will never know the real answer to any of these questions.
All around me I see people trying to survive. Is that all we were put here for? To value nothing other than money? Sure, there are other things that we value, but none as much as money. Money is what this earth stands for. You don't have money, you die. Again, there are people on this earth who survive without money, but we all need it. We struggle our whole life for money, and then we die. That's it. That's out existence. Others try to get by legally, others illegally. "What's in it for me?"
Gone are the days that I never saw, but heard about when people were civil, polite, and well mannered. There are a few left, but that's a rare sight.
Once again, I fit into that "bad" category, and I'm not proud of it, but it's the way that you have to be to get by. You become a nice person, and then some one uses you.
Why is it that bad things are always happening to nice people. I know so many nice people who have died to early in tragic deaths, or have had bad misfortunes come their way, and then the "bad" people seems to always have many good turns. Why does it work that way? I think that is horribly unfair. But what can you do? It's a dog eat dog world...

Heh. To the first part, I cannot reply. As you've said, they are answerless.

Ever looked into Objectivism? Transcendentalism? I'm not either, really, but I borrow philosophies, theories, from both. Perhaps you should read Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. If you haven't heard of that title, perhaps you've heard of another one of her massively famous books Atlas Shrugged if you want to feel comforted that she's a good writer.

Ayn Rand, the beginner of Objectivism, strikes me as arrogant. But she is, and she would admit that herself. She would say "Do not count those who are stuck behind in a world that they allow themselves to be stuck behind in. Overlook them, and lead your life as you would, without obligation."

Ralph Waldo Emerson, the beginner of Transcendentalism, would have to say similar things on the subject of leading ones life. Whether there is or is no God, be intent upon enjoying life as it is, because it could be your only shot. He once said something like, and I'm paraphrasing "I believe I am God's man, so let me act as such, however if I am Satan's man then I will be Satan's man". Which meant, basically, "I believe I do good, so let me continue doing what I'm doing because that's what I do, however, if in truth I'm actually doing evil, just let me keep doing what I'm doing because it's what I do"

Understand? You don't have to be a social outcast to simply say "Screw it. Screw stress, screw doing what other people think I should do, screw going to college 'cause frankly, I don't want to even though everyone else wants me to."

Unfortunately, while I agree with him, neither I nor even Emerson could fully live our lives like he suggests. No one should really try, it's so simple that it's hard.

But for any man who would attempt to do as such, do not forget this: it doesn't mean "I do what I want". You... just need to interpret whether or not what you think you want to do is what you really want to do. People do things for the emotions attached to them, usually, not for the thing itself.
