The beach of Achata on the island of Karpathos in Greece |
Achata beach is a beach located on the east side of the island of Karpathos. From Karpathos Town you drive north to the village Aperi and on your way you come across the sign indicating the road to the beach of Achata. The route to the beach is winding and curving but also very beautiful. From Pigadia (Karpathos Town) there are also organized boat trips to this beach during the high season. Achata beach is a pebbly beach (but also with some sand) and it is located in a bay surrounded by high rocks, so even on days when there is a lot of wind, you can sometimes find a place out of the wind. The emerald green water is clear and it quickly gets deep when you go into the sea, so it is not suitable for small children. It is one of the best places on the island of Karpathos for snorkeling also because of the clarity of the water. At the beach there are some trees where you can find shade and the cliffs that surround the whole bay are covered with pine trees. Achata beach is relatively quiet compared to some other beaches on Karpathos, but in high season it can get crowded here too. Except a good taverna at the beach called Anna's Place and a small number of sunbeds and parasols that are rented out, there are no other facilities. For accommodations you have to look elsewhere. |
