The journey to the east from Kallonis to Achladeri and the ancient City of Pyrra gets more beautiful at a certain point when you're driving very close to the Gulf of Kallonis. There are great views over the sea and the nature in this area is amazing.
The two villages lie next to eachother and they are not really villages, but more like an area with here and there a house, and a couple of beaches. At Pyrra we were looking for excavations and antiquities but if you look for them you are going to be disappointed, because the remains of the old village of Pyrra are not on the land but in the sea.
Ancient Pyrra was once the centre of the region and one of the five cities on the island of Lesbos but it was destroyed by an earthquake and disappeared under water. What is left now is a couple of houses on a pebble beach.
