Agios Ioannis is the best known and most developed tourist resort on the eastern side of the Pelion peninsula. The distance to the capital city of Volos is about 45 kilometers. Also around Papa Nero beach you can find accommodations and there are facilities for the tourists. You can rent umbrellas and sunbeds. Papa Nera beach is suitable for small children. The restaurants and accommodations are at the beginning of the beach. Those who walk more towards the end of the beach end up in the quieter area. If you want to lie there it is convenient to take a supply of water with you, if you do not want to walk back all the way back to have a drink in one of the restaurants.

Plaka Beach is situated just north of Agios Ioannis and is accessible by a footpath from the village or by car. Also here are some umbrellas and sunbeds for hire. The beach is smaller than Agios Ioannis or Papa Nero beach. In some places on the beach you can find some shade under the vegetation.
