A must see this supposedly oldest Byzantine church of the island of Lesbos. It is located in the northeast of the island at the end of a dead end road in a tiny village with the same name, not far from Mantamados. Here you will get the feeling that you are at the end of the world. The church of Agios Stefanos is built of rough red stone and is situated near the sea. Closeby is a picnic table with benches set under a tree, which forms a kind parasol. A wonderful place to have a rest and stare at the sea. The church of Agios Stefanos is open (at least it was when we were there), so you can take a look inside. Unfortunately there are no beautiful frescos and you will see only a few icons, but it is nice to just get inside and burn candle. The church of Agios Stefanos is located in a beautiful environment and it is also a place to just enjoy the sea and the peace and quiet.
