Aloides is a village in the north of the Rethymno district, not far from the village of Sisses and the coast. It is located in a valley between the hills along the road on the route that connects the "New National Road" and the "Old National Road". Aloides is an example of a picturesque traditional Cretan village where virtually no tourists ever come. About 300 people live in the village and it makes a rather deserted and isolated impression.
On the square of the village stands the medium-sized and fairly new Agios Dimitrios church (1957), which consists of two houses: one with a circular vaulted roof and one with a triangular roof. There are two bells in the bell tower. Most of the houses in Aloides are old. At the edge of the village is a modest war memorial in memory of the victims of the First and Second World War. There are not many facilities in the village, but there are a few kafenions.
