Amopi, Ammoopi or Amoopi (it is written in different ways) is the name of a region on Karpathos which lies six kilometers south of the capital Pigadia. In the area you find the village of Lakki and there are several beaches of which Mikri (small) Amopi, Perama and Votsalakia beach are the best known. Votsalakia is the southernmost beach of the three. It is a pebble beach that is partially organized with sun beds and umbrellas. The sea here is rather shallow and it is suitable for small children, although the sea can be turbulent.

A bit further north is Perama, Megalo (large) Amopi or Pera Ammos beach. This is an 80 meter long sandy beach with fine sand. In case of a strong wind it is not pleasant here. Here there are also parasols and sunbeds for rent. Just like in Votsalakia, the sea in Pera Ammos is shallow and suitable for small children. Both beaches are therefore popular with families. In between the to beaches on a rock stands the small but pretty church of Agii Apostoli.

The most northern and smallest beach is called Mikri (small) Amopi. This is the most tranquil beach of the three and perhaps the most beautiful. Mikri Amopi is also a sandy beach and here too the sea is shallow. At the beaches there are quite a few taverns and there is a variety of accommodations to choose from. From Pigadia or Karpathos City there is a bus connection a couple of times a day with Amopi starting at the end of May.
