The village and the beaches of Analipsi in the south east of Crete |
Not to be confused with the fairly new tourist resort that was build 5 km from Chersonisos, this Analipsi lies in the south of Crete next to Makrigialos (it's like one village instead of two) on the Kalo Nero bay, along the main road from Sitia to Ierepatra. I thought it was a pleasant place with a nice sandy beach, and with the more picturesque Makrigialos within walking distance. Nice hotels, tavernas on the beach, beds and umbrella's for rent, some souvenir shops, minimarkets, a petrol station and a place where you can bring your car if it has problems. The whole coast line seems to be "split up" a bit with coves and bays where you can find an accommodation. There are small beaches and larger beaches, beaches with facilities (umbrellas and sunbeds), beaches without facilities and beaches with facilities on just a part of the beach. The large main beach of the village, which is most easily accessible to everyone, consists of fine sand and it is easy to get into the sea because it is not immediately steep. If the wind blows over the mountains from the north, it is usually still bearable here because there is less wind. The entrances to the beach can be found near the small white church of Analipsi or at the large parking lot that you cannot overlook, between the villages of Analipsi and Makrigialos. |
Taverna Exipiretisis - Makrigialos |
This taverna is situated right next to the large parking lot in the village of Makrigialos, on the left hand side as you look towards the sea. There is no extensive menu but it is really cheap and delicious. We ordered the fried zucchini, tzatziki, twice the sole fish, a mix fish, chicken fillet and green beans. All this of course accompanied by a carafe of white wine. |
Everything we have ordered tastes good, especially the fried zucchini and cheese saganaki are excellent. The next day we are back. We get a nice desert and a free can of white wine. Highly recommended, good food for little money. Our verdict: an 8,5 out of 10 |
Revans Snack Bar - Analipsi, Makrigialos |
Revans Snack Bar is located directly on the beach of Analipsi. It is a real snack bar, with no complicated recipes, but everything is presented in a nice way, it is not expensive and the service is friendly. It is what you can expect from it. We order a bbq burger and a club sandwich chicken. In the club sandwich no pieces of (fresh) chicken but a chicken burger that came from the freezer. Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10 |
Coukos Island Cafe Snackbar Creperie - Analipsi, Makrigialos |
Coukos Island Cafe Snack Bar Creperie is located on the beach of Analipsi and is also accessible from the coastal road that runs through Analipsi and Makrigialos. We order a savory crepe and a Coucos burger. The crepe contains tomatoes, peppers, olives, salami and spicy cheese. It tastes good. The salami was not my favourite ingredient. The burger is served with chips instead of French fries and that is a shame. Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10 |
Diaskari Taverna - Diaskari beach (Green beach) - Makrigialos |
The Diaskari Taverna is situated on the western side of Diaskari beach and can be reached via an exit at the end of Analipsi, which says "Green beach". It is therefore on the east side on the outskirts of Analipsi, between the beaches of Analipsi and the large beach of Lagada. It is set in a beautiful spot on a pretty and quiet beach, and everywhere there are trees and flowers in pots. The owner has made it very cozy and the taverna is also quite popular. We order the grilled sardines, a Greek salad, the fried sargos (small fish that have been stripped of the bone), the tzatziki and half a liter of white wine. The service is very friendly and the food is good. Our verdict: an 8 out of 10 |
Petra Bay taverna - Analipsi (Makrigialos) |
In our opinion the best taverna that can be found in the Makrigialos-Analipsi area at the moment. The service is very friendly and everything we have eaten there was very tasty and just a little more attention was paid to it. There is a very extensive menu so it is difficult to choose. Petra Bay taverna can be found on the long sandy beach of Analipsi, approximately at the height of the small church that stands in the village. Our verdict: a 9 out of 10 |
