The village, the beaches and the castle of Charaki or Haraki on the island of Rhodos |
Charaki or Haraki is a nice little resort on the east coast of the island of Rhodes. Personally I thought that this village together with Stegna beach belonged to the most attractive seaside resorts. The village has three beaches. On the outskirts of Charaki in the south lies a long and empty pebble beach, and in the village itself in a bay there is a nice beach with coarse sand, where umbrellas and sunbeds are available to rent. In the north after about 15 minutes walk you will find Agathi beach. It is situated away from the traffic. Above the village on a hill you can see the ruins of an old castle of the Knight of St. John, which is called Feraklos and dates from 1470. It was originally built as protection against a possible Ottoman invasion. You can climb to the castle via a path from the village, but you can not enter it. |
Charaki is situated about a fifteen minutes drive from Lindos, on the north side of it, and it can be reached via an exit from the main road that runs along the east coast of the island of Rhodes. The distance to Rhodes City is 36 kilometers. In Charaki you will find nice restaurants and some shops and around the beach there are a number of small hotels and apartments for rent. Large hotels are (thankfully) not available and therefore the village makes a very relaxed impression. Charaki has a regular bus service to both Rhodes Town and Lindos.
