Corfu restaurants |
Please note these are only our personal experiences and thoughts: you might think differently and disagree, which doesn't mean I will change my opinion. Also: restaurants come and go, change owners, hire a different cook, so things might change. |
Corfu restaurants: Havanna Beach Bar in Agios Stefanos |
The Havana Beach Bar is located on the beautiful sandy beach of Agios Stefanos. There are great seats and everything is very clean and cheap, and the service is very friendly. The menu offers many simple dishes such as club sandwiches, buritos and sandwiches. We order a cappuccino (which comes without a glass of water, but tastes quite good) and the burito with chicken. The burito not only looks nice but tastes very good as well. The fries are also crisp and fine. Our verdict: good to very good, an 8,5 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Taverna Capricorn in Ano Perithia |
In the village of Ano Perithia you can find a lot of tavernas. We have done a quick lunch here, which consisted of walnut cake and yoghurt with honey and walnuts. Both the cake and the yoghurt were way too sweet, the cake was moist and the yoghurt had so much honey on it that it wasn't nice any more. A half hour later our teeth were still stuck together. Our verdict: disappointing, a 5 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Taverna Argo in Agios Gordis |
Taverna in the main street that leads to the beach. The menu offers simple dishes and snacks such as omelettes, club sandwich, sandwiches, burgers and such ... It is inexpensive. Friendly service and the food was okay. The cappuccino could have been a bit stronger though. Our verdict: good, an 8 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Beautiful Benitses & Spiros Taverna - Benitses |
One of the restaurants on the square of Benitses, actually two tavernas in one. The friendly and humorous man working in the taverna is Spiros himself. Here we have eaten a couple of times. The white wine is fresh, and it is poured into the glasses by Spiros. The first time we order zucchini balls, lamb chops and pasta carbonara. The lamb chops and pasta are all right and there are large portions served. The roasted garlic bread could have done with a bit more garlic, the zucchini balls are "standard" and the fries could have been more crunchy. During the meal we get a new jug of wine on the table. On a second visit I order the pasta carbonara again because I really liked it. The other dish, a fried chicken filet is unfortunately somewhat disappointing in terms of taste (there is not much done with it), but all in all still a good restaurant. Special attention for the two singing birds of the owner please. They are called Elvis and Pavarotti. Our verdict: good, an 8 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Tony & Alex Restaurant Bar - Benitses |
Another restaurant on the square of Benitses and again, a very friendly service. Gosh the people are so nice in Benitses. At Tony & Alex we order cheese balls, tzatziki, pastitsada (pasta with beef) and stifado (beef with onions). The wine is excellent and the beef dishes melt on the tongue so soft. The tzatziki also tastes good. The cheese balls are unfortunately not home made and came out of the freezer. Pity. Furthermore, no complaints, the food was good and the guy that helped us, Tony, gets the thumbs up. Our verdict: good, an 8,5 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Taverna Aktaion in Corfu Town |
The Aktaion Taverna is located at the Esplanade in Corfu Town and the terrace has a magnificent view over the old fort. It is not cheap (you pay also for the view) but the staff is friendly. The cappuccino is very strong and good, but it could have been served a bit warmer. Our verdict: reasonable to good, a 7,5 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Restaurant Asteria in Ipsos |
The Asteria Restaurant is located at the end of the beach of Ipsos and has a beautiful view over the harbour and the sea. It looks neat, with real table sheets on the tables. There are all kinds of food on the menu, which is traditionally Greek: various appetizers, grilled meats and fish etcetera. Here we order the grilled feta cheese, salad Asteria and tzatziki. The tzatziki and salad (with corn, cherry tomatoes, radishes and blue cheese) tastes reasonable. The feta cheese from the oven is served with at least a meter aluminium foil around it, not really handy. The bread is toasted (so no fresh bread), the service could be a bit friendlier. Our verdict: reasonable, a 7 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Cafe Kanoni - Kanoni |
Restaurant with a nice view of the Vlacherna monastery and the island Ponikonissi. In the restaurant there are several simple dishes on the menu, like a club sandwich, lasagne, meatballs, salads or grilled chicken. The coffee is okay, comes in a large bowl, is warm and is served with a glass of cold water. The fries are very good here, the club sandwich also tastes good. It is a little bit expensive, but you probably also have to pay for the view. The service of the staff is friendly. Our verdict: good, an 8 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Solaris Apartments Snackbar in Kassiopi |
This is the snack bar at the Solaris Apartments complex. The menu offers simple dishes (fast food and snacks) such as a hot dog, pizza or a hamburger, but for what it is, it is good and tasty and it is very cheap. The cook in the kitchen has a hairnet on. Our verdict: good, an 8 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Bolero Restaurant in Kassiopi |
The Bolero restaurant is situated in the main street leading to the harbor of Kassiopi. The menu offers all sorts of options, traditional Greek food, but also other things. We ordered the Chicken Korma, Mexican chicken and the chef salad. Here we get warm buns instead of the ordinary bread, and there is at butter. The chef salad is reasonable, but no real winner. There's ham, cheese and egg in it, but strangely enough also tuna, which does not really go well together. The chicken Korma (Indian) and the Mexican chicken are tender and taste good, but the flavor could have been a bit spicier for us. They are served with rice and baked potatoes. Again a strange combination. It would have been better to give a combination of rice and a refreshing salad with this kind of food. Our verdict: reasonable to good, a 7,5 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: To Kyma Restaurant in Kassiopi |
The To Kyma Restaurant is a bit of a posh restaurant in the village Kassiopi. It is near the harbour of the village towards the beaches. The tables are neatly covered with table cloths and there is a lot of staff. The chefs work in an open kitchen, so you can see what they do. The menu is very extensive. We order the "Corfiot fish balls," the fantasia salad, the chef's chicken and the penne Diavola. The wine is excellent. The salad tastes good and is comprised of various vegetables with roasted pine nuts, the fish balls do not not really impress us. They have a taste of cheese balls from the freezer. The filled chef's chicken is very tasty indeed (the tastiest chicken in the holidays) and it is nicely served with special fries. The Penne Diavola tastes good but looks a bit plain in comparison to the other dish. The free desert we get after our meal is by far the best desert we have had on the whole island. The restaurant is more expensive than the average restaurant in Kassiopi, but we found it especially fun that it offered something different than the typical restaurants that you will normally encounter on the Greek islands. Our verdict: good to very good, an 8,5 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: La Luna Restaurant in Kassiopi |
The La Luna Restaurant is located in the main street that leads to the harbour of Kassiopi. It's a restaurant with only Italian dishes, but very good. We ordered the bruschetta classica (spiced toast with tomatoes), the Lasagne all forno and Penne all tonno. The service is extremely friendly, and the wine that is poured into our glasses tastes fine. The pasta with tuna is really delicious and the lasagne also tastes very good. The prices are reasonable here. Our verdict: very good, a 9 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Taverna Michalis in Liapades |
Michalis taverna is situated in the main street that runs to the beach of Liapades. The menu is extensive, with lots of starters and main courses. There are snacks, salads, specialties of the chef, fish and meat from the grill. The staff is extremely friendly and the tavern is popular with visitors to the village. The cook has a hairnet on. We have eaten here a few times. It is also strikingly cheap. The first time we ordered the tzatziki, the Michalis special salad, the saganaki (fried cheese), the giros dish and spaghetti carbonara. The tzatziki tastes good and is made with plenty of garlic, and the saganaki (which is a bit on the salty side) also tastes good. The salad consists of eggs, ham, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, cheese and corn and there's a nice sauce over it. The spaghetti carbonara and giros dish both taste very good. The best giros ever is said at the table, crunchy and well seasoned. The fries are also delicious and crisp. On a subsequent visit we order again the tzatziki, and the pizza special, the chicken salad and lamb chops. This time after the high expectations it is a bit disappointing. The pizza is has too much stuff on it (too much cheese and canned mushrooms) but I miss the tomato sauce. The lamb chops are not so good: a lot of fat and bones instead of meat. Anyway: watch what you order here. I understood from other people in the tavern that the "Chicken Michalis" is terribly nice, but we have not gotten around to trying that out. Our verdict: good to very good, an 8,5 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Taverna Vitamins in Nissaki |
Vitamins is a family taverna which is located on the main road that runs through the village of Nissaki (not far from the church). There is a lovely terrace overlooking the sea and the service is extremely friendly. Ntina and Amalia, two sisters, take the orders and serve the food, that is: if the cook doesn't come to your table to proudly present you his dish by himself. The service is perfect and the wine is poured into the glasses. The menu includes various cold and hot appetizers, salads, omelettes, mousaka, chicken, grilled meats and fish. It is an extensive menu and the restaurant is very popular. As an appetizer with the bread you get a delicious tapanade of olives and small sliced cubes of tomato with fresh herbs. The food is really awesome here. We therefore try several dishes. The Vitamins salad tastes good and is, as suggested, full of vitamins. The lamb chops are fine, the pasta with mushrooms and bacon really delicious, the chicken souvlaki succulent, the stifado (stew with onions) well seasoned and tender, the meatballs are delicious, the tzatziki tastes good and has plenty of garlic in it and the fries are crispy. Afterwards there is orange cake with ice. Nothing but praise for this great restaurant! Our verdict: very good, a 9 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Taverna Mitsos in Nissaki |
Mitsos taverna can be found on the beach of Nissaki. The menu is quite extensive, with hot and cold appetizers, pizzas, salads, grilled meats and international cuisine. Here we have eaten a few times. The tzatziki is good, with fresh herbs and lots of cucumber in it, the spinach pies and Greek salad are also good. It is a bit pricy here, but you pay a little for the beautiful location. In the evening we try Mitsos pizza, chicken curry and Mitsos salad with Parma ham, walnuts and dried tomatoes. We thought that there were too few walnuts in the salad was and it lacked something of parmesan cheese. The Parma ham was sliced very thick and was really not my thing. The pizza was OK, but it had maybe a too thick bottom and not enough tomato. The chicken curry was good and the fries were pretty crisp. Our verdict: good, an 8 out of 10 |
Corfu restaurants: Restaurant The Flavour O Meraklis in Paleokastritsa |
We already noticed that somehow the people in Paleokastritsa seemed less friendly than in other places on Corfu, but if you want to meet the most unfriendly, rude and hysterical resident of this village then you should go here. When I took some pictures of his restaurant the owner became so angry that he came to us, tore the menus out of our hands and sent us away. In short: he doesn't need any business and you better not go there unless you like to be treated as garbage. Our verdict: avoid!! a big fat ZERO! |
