Zorbas Studios and Apartments in Agia Pelagia Agia Pelagia is a cosy little village that has still got that feeling of authentic Greece, even though it is only 22 kilometers away from the capitol Heraklion. It's the perfect spot to have your holidays, away from all the noise and convieniantly situated to make trips and excursions to the sights of Crete. Agia Pelagia has a couple of very nice beaches. A few meters from the main beach, the shops and the restaurants you can find the comfortable Zorbas Studios and Apartments. All the rooms in this complex have satelite tv, airconditioning, a kitchen, a safe box and a balcony with table and chairs. Some of the rooms have a seaview and some of them look over a quiet little street. Zorbas has also got and internet corner exclusively for its visitors. If you book here my advice is to ask for a room / apartment on the front with a seaview. Villa Almyrida View in Almyrida - Large 3 bedroom villa with panoramic views This beautiful and large villa is situated on a quiet road in the village of Almyrida on walking distance from all the taverns, supermarkets, ATM machine, pharmacy, the (very good) bakery and all the other amenities that this lovely village has to offer (not forgetting the good sandy beaches here). This makes it ideally situated: away from noise but close to everything. The villa has different sitting areas on the outside (you can choose for sun or shade) where you can relax and enjoy a breakfast, a coffee or a drink while you look out over the village of Almyrida, the bay of Souda and the island of Karga. In the distance you can see the planes take off and land on the airport of Chania, which is situated on the opposite Akrotiri peninsula. There is a 40 m2 large private pool with sunbeds (with soft covers if you like) which is in the sun almost day, so water temperatures are good. Cretan Village Hotel in Ammoudara We have stayed a few days in this lovely hotel. Cretan Village is situated on the outskirts of the village / beach Ammoudara just around the corner. It is clearly marked with a sign on the side of the road. In front of the complex you can find another (pebble) beach, and a little further another one. Cretan Village is built like a Cretan village, with whitewashed houses that are stuck on a mountain and with narrow Greek streets, squares, gardens, flowers and palmtrees. Downstairs is the gate and therefore it's possible to park your car there. If you drive through the gate you will first get to the reception where there is some more parking space. Parking for the guests is over a steep road at the top of the complex. From this parking you can enter the "village" and go to your accommodation. It consists of a number of villas with apartments (with one or two bedrooms, 80 or 120 m2). Also from the reception and the large pool you can access a staircase that leads up to the villas of Cretan Village. The views over the sea, the mountains and Agios Nikolaos are very beautiful. Villa Sophia's House in Aspro near Almirida Beach (Apokoronas - Crete) This lovely intimate villa is situated on a hill near the seaside resort of Almirida. We stayed here in September 2008 and we absolutely loved it. It was cosy and comfortable and the views from the terraces and the pool were fantastic. The villa had everything you could wish for: amazing views from the terraces and the pool, a beautiful bathroom, a living space with comfortable couches, a dining table and chairs and three bedrooms with extra large extra comfortable beds with loads of pillows. The beds were over two meters long because I could fit in without any problems and without my feet sticking out (yes people, I am a tall, tall guy). I loved this place because it felt so homely and everybody was feeling so happy in it. It makes you want to buy your own villa on the island. Elounda Solfez Villas - Elounda In early October 2011 we stayed in one of these beautiful villas for a number of days. The Elounda Solfez villas are brand new and they are situated on a hill. The view is truly spectacular. From any of your terraces or from your pool you look out over the Bay of Elounda and the Spinalonga peninsula. On a clear day you can also see several small islands in the distance and even the high cliffs of the peninsula all the way back behind Sitia in the extreme east of the island. Tania Apartments in Ferma, southeast Crete - a special place with happy people These apartments are located in the southeast of Crete, on a half hour drive from Ierapetra, and they are run by Loes and Peter. I was already there once before only to have a look around, because I was tipped by various people that liked it so much that they regularly returned. The first time I only saw Peter and had a chat with him. I thought that he was a very nice guy. One of the good things is that in front of the apartment complex there is a large and quiet beach where there is also a part that is used by naturists. In the back on the beach it is very pleasant, protected behind the small rocks and sand leading you into the sea, making it easy to go for a swim. So this was reason enough for us to return to Tania Apartments. Monachus Monachus Apartments in Frangokastelo on Crete The Monachus Monachus Apartments & Studios are located in the south of Crete, on a very quiet road that leads from the main road and goes towards the mountains. The complex is run by two nice young people, Spyros and Evi. In the terrain of Monachus Monachus is a parking lot where you can park your car. The distance to the beach, the fort and the nearest tavernas is approximately 250 to 300 meters. The complex consists of three buildings with studios and 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments, that are situated in a garden around a pool. It overlooks the sea and the fortress of Frangokastelo. Old Fountain Villas - Galatas - Crete Palia Vrisi is the name of the area where the villas are situated. It means "old fountain" and this is because the people that live in Galatas and around used to come here for their water. We stayed at one of the three Old Fountain Villas in September 2008. They are situated in a very green area near the villages of Galatas and Stalos, not far away from the town of Chania on the route to Kissamos Kastelli. The owner of the villas is Helen and she is very friendly and her english is perfect! There are three different villas on the estate and Helen and her husband also have a house there. All the villas are detached and have their own garden and private pool and they are different in size. Villa Giorgos in Gavalochori - A house with 3 bedrooms in a pine tree forest Villa Giorgos is set in a very secluded spot in the middle of a pine tree forest. The villa is situated on the outskirts of Gavalochori and close to the coastal resort of Almyrida. In both villages you can find good taverns, super markets and a bakery. Especially the pastries of the bakery in Almyrida are worth a detour! Villa Giorgos is situated on a hill at the end of short dirt track. The villa has several verandas with a splendid view of the forest that surrounds it and there are distant views of the sea in front of Almyrida (Souda Bay). It's very, very quiet. Behind the villa is the private pool with the sunbeds and the parasols, chairs and tables, a swing and a barbecue. The pool is surrounded by a low wall and pine trees and is not overlooked, so we skinny dipped. Villa Prinolothos in Gavalochori - 3 bedrooms, separate studio and beautiful seaview This beautiful large stone villa with private pool is located on a hill just above the village of Gavalochori, in a region called the Apokoronas. It is about half an hour to forty five minutes away from the city of Chania and the trip from the airport is approximately one hour. The villa has three bedrooms and a separate studio that can accommodate four people. The maximum number of people that can stay in the villa is ten. Prinolithos villa is in a very quiet and very private position, so ideal for those who seek tranquillity and and want the possibility to to sunbathe and swim without swimwear. The views from Villa Prinolithos and from the infinity pool are extremely pretty. You look out over several villages, including Gavalochori with its four churches, the villages of Aspro and Plaka, the green nature, the Souda Bay and the Akrotiri peninsula. Luxury Villa Provarma Hills, Gerani, Crete. If you are looking for a very spacious and modern villa with breathtaking views than Luxury Villa Provarma Hills may be for you. This villa offers you basically everything you'd expect from a superior villa. The only thing lacking is a big round dot for a helicopter to land on. Villa Provarma Hills is quietly situated on a hill in the north of the island of Crete, just outside the villages of Gerani and Modi in the area between Chania and Kolymbari. The distance to the popular tourist resort of Platanias is about ten minutes by car. Recently a large new Lidl supermarket was opened here, which is easy to find. We though it was very convenient to just buy lots of food here and fill up the trunk of our car, because once you're inside the grounds of the villa you will not feel much need for leaving it again. Special hotels in Crete: Villa Filitsa in the Apokoronas - Kefalas Villa Filitsa consists of four apartments in a beautiful old historic stone house that is situated in Kefalas in the Apokoronas district, close to Georgioupolis and Vamos. The villa is open all year round! The oldest part of the house dates from the Venetian times and other parts have been added to the house through history. It has been carefully and beautifully restored by Canea Properties and the house is a historic monument. It was once used by the Turkish general commander of Crete. There is a common pool with the property. Each apartment has a complete kitchen, and each bathroom (with the exception of one) has a fullsize bathtub. One suite (the Venetian Suite I believe) has a shower, but not just an ordinairy one: it is super-beautiful. I have seen all the bathrooms and all the suites myself on a short tour and they are all special, tasteful and imaculate, with beautiful kitchens, luxury bathrooms and comfortable furniture (lots of them antiques). Villa Athina in Kokkino Chorio - A house with 3 bedrooms and beautiful seaview Villa Athina is situated on a hilltop in Kokkino Chorio, a village just east of the city of Chania, in the area called the Apokoronas. In October 2012 we were one of the first visitors in this new house which is built in traditional style, with stone and round arches between the rooms and the terraces. The villa has a private pool and is set in a very private location (not overlooked). The view from the grounds of the villa and the various verandas is phenomenal. You look out over the sea, three peninsulas (Apokoronas, Akrotiri and Rodopos) and three islands, including Souda Island with its fortress and the island of Karga, that lies in front of the village of Almyrida. There are views over the bay of Souda,the naval base, the fort Izzedine and you see the cruise boats and ferries sailing in on their way to the harbour of Souda. Spiros Soula Apartments in Ligaria Beach Spiros Soula is an apartment complex in the village Ligaria (sometimes called Lygaria). This village is about 30 minutes / 20 km drive from the airport of Heraklion (but not in the flight path, so no problems with noise). It's a nice place to start your holiday or end it, so don't have to overstay in busy Heraklion, but instead spend the first or last days in a relaxed place. But it is also nice for a longer holiday, or for a stop if you travel from the west side of the island to the east (or vice versa). The village of Ligaria is accessible from a junction of the New National Road that runs between Heraklion and Rethymnon. Bayview Bungalows, Lagada, Makrigialos, south of Crete. These new bungalows have an area of 88 m2 and are situated around a lovely large communal pool with sun beds. The decor is sleek and modern, yet very cosy. Crete Hotels: CretaSun Apartments in Makrigialos Makrigialos is a cosy fishermens village in the south of Crete, with nice taverna's and beautiful beaches. Tourist industry is not over-developped here, allthough there is some life in the village. There are no ugly concrete buildings though like you will for instance encounter them in Malia or Chersonissos. In this way the village has maintained its authenticity. In Makrigialos you can find the CretaSun Apartments, which are each 70 m2 large, some with a beautiful view of the harbour, the beach and the mountains. The apartment complex is situated on top of a hill at the edge of the bay. A short walk and some stairs will bring you to the main beach and the taverna's. Villa Renata in Megala Chorafia: deceptively large and luxurious. The perfect get away. Pictures do not do this villa justice: you have to see it and experience it. One of my favourites ever. It is an absolute gem and also the perfect get away from it all. The people that own it have turned it into something very special. We visited this beautiful villa in the Apokoronas in October 2008. It is deceptively large: I estimate it is about 175 m2. Downstairs there are three bedrooms (2 doubles and one twin). The double rooms each have their own balcony and the twin room has a door leading to the patio in front of the pool. The last room has a private bathroom with a shower and toilet and there is also a small study incorporated. All the bedrooms have a tv and there is airconditioning. Villa Amalia in Megala Chorafia - Luxureous large villa with a big swimming pool This beautiful large villa with private pool of 50 m2 is situated on a hill next to the village of Megala Chorafia (near Chania - which is 13 kilometers away - and Kalives, in the north of the island of Crete). It is one of the nicest places we ever stayed. The villa is easy to reach. If you come from the direction of Chania and drive towards the east you will pass the village Megala Chorafia. Just after the exit to the village you can clearly see the sign that says "Villa Amalia next exit 100 m" and here you drive over a narrow but good road into the hills. Villa Mertiza in Mirtos The southeast of Crete is the most peaceful part of the island of Crete, where you regularly bump into an empty beach, and yet there are a number of cosy coastal villages with a bit of life such as his Mírtos, Makrigialios and Analipsi. One of the places in the southeast of Crete, which we discovered was Mirtos. This village turned out to be a pleasant surprise and our attention was drawn by Villa Mertiza. It is a complex with 22 apartments and studios in 2008 where we have taken a look. It is run by people from Holland. It looked very cared for and had a modern kitchen with a refrigerator and coffee maker. Tel. Villa Christina in Plaka near Almyrida - Cheap, large and quiet villa in the middle of the village Villa Christina is a very nice and large villa in the village of Plaka in the Apokoronas, not far from Chania, about an hour drive from the airport (Chania). It has sea views, overlooking Souda Bay and the Akrotiri peninsula, and it is very cheaply priced (starting at 600 euro per week in 2012)! The beach of Almyrida is about 5 minutes away (2 km) and you it is possible to go there on foot. Here in Almyrida you find a lot of shops, supermarkets, two pharmacies and a variety of good restaurants and a few bars. Villa Christina is located in a very quiet street above Almyrida in village of Plaka, 150 meters from the village square with tavernas and a good supermarket (the best small supermarket in the area). If you walk for three minutes walk you are on the central square of Plaka, while the location of the villa itself has a more rural feel, because it is surrounded by hedges and trees and there is a large garden at the villa. There is a lawn (with a barbecue and a table with chairs) and there are many trees including palm trees, conifers and an almond tree. In the street where the villa is located there is almost no traffic. In the villa has a fantastic large pool with sunbeds and parasols. Villa Atlantis House in Plaka near Almyrida on Crete - the luxury life in a Cretan village Live the life of a villager but in plenty of luxury: you can do this in Villa Atlantis. Behind the walls and the gates of Atlantis House you will find a little hidden gem. Villa Atlantis is a beautifully restored stone village house which is situated in the old part of the village of Plaka in the Apokoronas in Crete. The villa is located in a quiet street with little traffic driving through and surrounded by a wall so the garden and pool are not overlooked from the street. Villa Lambros in Tertsa - apartments and studios Nearby Mirtos in the southeast lies the village of Tertsa. It is very quiet and with great beaches, that are also ideal for the naturists. In the village itself is the large sand beach with sunbeds and umbrella's and on either side there are a large number of beaches. The ones on the west side of the village are super, quiet and excellent for naturism. Dick and Siemon from Villa Mertiza (see above) run a small apartment building here, Villa Lambros. The village is very small, with 70 residents, and yet with a couple of tavernas and a minimarket - one of the tavernas, Lambros Taverna, is very, very good and the people are so friendly and hospitable. If you like to spend a couple of days in real peace and quiet (except for the occasional dog bark) in a place and enjoy the sun, the nature and of course a delicious glass of ouzo on the balcony this is a spot for you.
