You can easily make a mistake if you follow the route from Megala Chorafia and Stylos to the village of Neo Chorio if you want to drive to Kares and then on to Chora Sfakion in southern Crete. If you take the turn too early (because you see the name "Kares" on a sign) then you end up in Kares, but that's a completely different village. This village of Kares here is accessible by the route Stylos - Provarma - Ramni - Kares and it is located in the mountains south of Souda Bay. The small and quiet traditional village with small houses is located at the end of the road (you may think you can still drive further but the road quickly becomes unpleasant). Nature here is lush and green and there are many large trees. Nearby are many natural sources. In Kares there are many old buildings from the Venetian and Turkish times, a few churches, the remains of a Venetian fortress and there are three caves in the area.
