In the west of the island lies one of the two almost equally in height mountains of Samos: the Kerkis Mountain (the other one is the Ampelos Mountain, more in the north-middle of the island). The Kerkis Mountain is 1440 meter high. There is a 12 kilometer long walking trail from votsalakia all the way to the top (clearly marked). This walk takes about five to six hours of climbing (remember this is a one way, so the journey back also takes time). Halfway the track there is a Monastery, the Evangelistria Monastery, where you can fill up your bottles with water.
