Mystegna Beach on the island of Lesbos in Greece |
Mystegna Beach is a small coastal village that lies down at the foot of the original (mountain)village Mystegna, not far from the capital of the island of Lesbos. During our visit (in 2006) it was still very small and there were not many facilities yet. But there were some nice tavernas and a mini-market. Mini-market in the literal sense of the word, because here they sold the real essentials such as bottled water, snacks and drinks. If you want to eat a good meal however you're okay. On the way from the airport, right after you have passed the capital Mytilini you will see a Lidl supermarket. Here we immediately bought a lot of our supplies. Mystegna Beach is a place for tranquillity and peace. Especially in the evenings it is lovely here and it feel like you landed on another planet. Within walking distance are several nice tavernas that are open in the evenings as well. If you really want to cook yourself in the beautiful kitchen of the house you can buy your food elsewhere (at least, it was like that in 2006 when we were there, but it may changed in the meantime). |
On top of the hill, on the other side of the highway that runs across the island, is the original village Mystegna, with its old houses, cobbled streets and quaint old church towers. Here I couldn't find a supermarket as well, but I must admit that I did not walk through the entire village. Mystegna gives the impression that it was overlooked by the tourism: a very old and very authentic Greek village with some steep paths and stairs. There are beautiful views over the island of Lesvos and Turkey itself. |
