Lesbos Island is one of the best locations in all of Europe to see migrating birds. The variation of the landscape offers many different kinds of of birds exactly what they want and it makes Lesbos a haven not only for birds but for birdwatchers as wel, who arrive in large numbers in the spring, late april early may. This is also a good time for a visit because nature is at its prettiest and there are a lot of beautiful wildflowers on Lesbos during that period. For people interested in birds the best places are around Kalloni, Skala Eressos and Sigri where there are marshes and flatlands.
On Lesbos there is more water then on most of the other Aegean islands and therefore the island is rich in agriculture, and there are many wetlands. Many of the ponds will dry up by the end of the summer when rain is scarce but in late spring and early summer they are full of water and wildlife, including turtles, frogs and birds.
