Mesanagros is a quiet little village in the south of Rhodes. It is not far from the Skiadinis monastery and its narrow streets are lined with old houses and there is a kafenion. It is not a tourist area. The distance from Mesanagros to Rhodes City is about 85 kilometers. Nearby are many old churches, ancient sites and caves, many of which are accessible only by a foot path (and not always clearly marked after the first sign with arrow). In the village there are two churches. One of them is the Dormition of the Virgin church that dates from the 13th century, where some small fragments of frescoes can be seen. It stands at the entrance of the village and is built on the remains of an old Christian basilica from the 6th century. There are still visible walls and pieces of mosaics. There is a fence around it but it is open, so you can go and have a look. The larger church of Mesanagros with its bell tower in the middle of the village is of a later date.
