The villages of Nikoloudes and Kosmadei on the island of Samos in Greece |
Nikoloudes is a small mountain village in the northwest of the island of Samos. It lies on the route Karlovassi (heading south to Leka) - Nikoloudes - Kosmadei - Kastania - Marathokampos. The area is very green and has lots of winding roads through the pine forests. The nature is beautiful here (just like the whole area in the west of Samos). Nikoloudes is a very quiet and small village with a kafenion. Here is the start of a trail to the waterfalls of Potami, indicated by a sign next to a huge tree which people say it is at least 700 years old but probably 1000. On the route from Leka to Nikoloudes you come across three attrective churches that you can see from afar. From Nikoloudes you drive through to Kosmadei. Between Nikoloudes and Kosmadei you will see signs for walking routes to the beaches of Megalo Seitani and Micro Seitani. |
The curving roads surrounded by pine tree forest will continue after you leave Nikoloudes towards the village of Kosmadei. Kosmadei is situated a few kilometers south of Nikoloudes. It is another quiet mountain village and it has a picturesque church. There are great views over the green plain of Marathokampou, the sea, Votsalakia, Marathokampos and other villages. |
