The village of Palaiokastro or Paleokastro is located in eastern Samos, about 5 km southeast of the capital Vathi. In Greece there are a large number of villages with this name, which means 'old castle'. At the site of these villages there was onve a castle (or off course there still is one). Often the stones of these buildings have been used at a later date to make new houses and there is not much left of it. In Paleiokastro there is a remnant of a wall with large stones that can be seen near the church Agios Tryfonas. In the village and the area around it a number of other beautiful churches found and also a couple of monasteries.
