The beach of Plimmiri on the island of Rhodes in Greece, the Virgin Zoodochos Pigi Monastery, the archaeological site |
Plimmiri is the name of a 4 kilometer long beach in the south of Rhodes. Rhodes Town is about 90 km away. It is not far from the more famous Prassonissi beach and during the high season Plimmiri is popular with windsurfers. You'll find the Virgin Zoodochos Pigi church at Plimmiri, built on the remains of an ancient temple. Pieces of this temple and columns were used in the construction of the present church. At the fishing port with its pier, next to the only taverna we have seen, there are still remnants of (we suspect) antiquity. Plimmiri is not really a village. Recently a large all-inclusive hotel was erected at the beach, but there is not much more development to be found in Plimmiri. It seems that this was once the site for naturists, but probably those times are over now that this large hotel complex has appeared. Just after Plimmiri towards Prassonissi you will pass the remains of a large old silk factory. From a distance this building looks like a monastery. For all accommodations in Plimmiri - click here. |
