THE PORTA BAR IN MYKONOS TOWN |
We always used to go to the Porta Bar in Mykonos, it had such good ambiance. The star attraction was Sophie, that gave life and awesome vibes to this bar. For one year Sophie worked in another bar, the Deja Vu Café Bar which is next to the Nautical Museum in Mykonos Town and now she is back in the Porta Bar. Everybody that wants to see "Queen Sophie" and also bartender Martin, can now find them there. Here are a few pictures of my favourite bar on the island. It's kind of hard to find, because it's in a backstreet. When you walk on the main boulevard you will find on a corner (opposite the little church standing along the water) a shop that sells religious icons. You just turn into the street and follow your ears to the noise. Who is behind the bar?French bartender Sophie rules the place and she pours the best and the biggest drinks of the island. She's also well known for her extravagant jewelry (especially rings) and her smile :). What kind of music do they play?In the Porta there is a party every night. Usually there is great music, mostly dance music, some new Greek hits and a bit of everything, whatever makes the people happy. Sophie works fast like an Olympic medal winner and always with a smile on her face. Sometimes she will act a bit funny and crazy, and she will for instance put a wig on her head and start dancing, but she always keeps an eye on the customers. Fast service is guaranteed. Who goes to Porta Bar?All sorts of people come in, and you might suddenly find yourself nex to a group of travo's. There are separate parts in the bar and two places where you can order a drink. A little aside from the noise is a cosy sitting room, but often the people are on the street just outside. |
