Psili Amos Beach in the east of the island of Samos in Greece |
This Spili Amos beach lies to the east of the island of Samos, overlooking the narrow strait whith Turkey where the boats pass through. You can reach it through an exit from the road that runs between Pythagorio and the capital Vathi. From here the journey to Psili Amos is 6 kilometer. On your way you will pass Limni Aliki, a lake and a nature reserve (with a large derelict building on it, I suspect an old olive press factory), and the pebble beach of Mykali. The beach of Psili Amos itself is not very long (about 200 meters I guess) but it is quite broad. It is located in an enclosed bay with an island in front of it. The sand is very fine in Psili Amos (Psili Amos means "fine sand"). It is a great family beach and suitable for families with small children. The sea remains very shallow meters from the coast and ten meters from the coast you stand still only up to your knees in the water. On the beach there are many parasols and sunbeds, but there is also an area on the beach where you just put down your towel can to sunbathe. On the beach there are a number of large tamarisk trees where you can find some shade. |
On Psili Amos there are a couple of accommodations and there are a few tavernas and a mini-market. The car park at the beach is too small for all cars that are ending up here. At a small distance of the beach there is another car park but you can but it is not free (it is also not very expensive though). Another option is to park at some distance from the beach when you find a place for your car there. Along the beach is a road but it is hidden under the sand and it is not frequently used or busy. For those people that are staying in Pythagorio and are without private transportation: there are also organized day trips by boat from Pythagorio to the beach of Psili Amos. El Greco Snackbar - Psili Amos Beach |
On the menu of the El Greco Snackbar you find different salads, omelettes, fish, spagethi, grilled meat and chicken, souvlaki and there are dishes for two persons. The service is fast. The white wine is good, with some taste to it, the bread is fresh and in one piece, the tzatziki is good and the meat is tender but a bit on the greasy side. It could also be made a bit tastier and spicy. The Greek salad is "standard" and not really something special and the fries are, like almost everywhere in the Greek islands, not crunchy. Just a simple restaurant that is purely focused on tourists. The prices are reasonable. Our verdict: a 7 out of 10 |
