The town of Rafina is in our opinion a very nice place that is about half an hour away from the airport of Athens. It stretches mainly along the coast, is a bit cluttered here and there and there are several beaches to choose from. Behind the harbour is a large square with restaurants and cafes and with small shops and there are streets with even more shops where everything is for sale. Most parts of the town, as soon as you leave the main road, are very quiet and it is nice to explore it a bit further. Both to the north and south of the harbour and the beach there are several other beaches that are within walking distance. Next to the port where the ferries are moored is a nice fishing harbour and behind the large square is the large church of Panagia Panovavissila with its bell tower and an interior filled with frescoes.
When you climb the stairs from the street you come to another large square with benches and here is also the entrance to the church.
On the other side of the harbour, on the north side of it you find the picturesque Agios Nikolaos church where there are nice views over Rafina, the harbour and the sea.
