Sisses is a village in the northeast of the Rethymnon district. It is located on a hill and is easy to see from the highway that runs along the north coast. The distance to the capital Heraklion is about 35 kilometers. The village has little to no tourism. Some 500 people live in Sisses and there are supermarkets and a number of taverns and kafenions. In Sisses there are a number of churches, of which the large village church from 1836 is the most interesting. It is the Agios Georgios church. This church stands on a square and is surrounded by a wall in which remains of a previous church have been incorporated.
In the village there is also a bust / memorial to Manolis Rasoulis (1945 - 2011), who was a well-known singer, composer and writer.
