Skaleta is one of the small villages that are in a row at the beach on the east side of Rethimnon (also Stavromenos, Adelianos Kampos, Platanes). It is a place that is mostly designed to please the tourists and can actually better be seen as some sort of suburb of Rethimnon. Inside the village there are a number of hotels, amongst which a very large one. Maybe it is suitable for people that just want to lie in the sand and do a little bit of swimming. If you want to go sight seeing on the island of Crete it would be smart to have a rental car. A bus ride to either Rethymno, Chania or Heraklion from Skaleta would also be possible. The bus ride to Rethymno is cheap, takes about 25 minutes and during the tourist season it goes every half an hour. The town of Rethimno is about 12 kilometers away. At some of the hotels you can buy bus tickets at the reception. In front of the Creta Star and Creta Royal hotel there are small boats that can take you on an excursion along the coast. During the trip you will visit a couple of caves.

All the facilities that you would expect at a large sandy beach such as plenty of (cheap) taverns, small bars and the possibility for water sports are to be found here. Don't expect a vibrant night life here: people come to Skaleta for peace and quiet. Because the beaches are so large and wide in this area there is always space and you can find your peace if you want to. In the area there are also a few smaller, more intimate and cheaper accommodations. The large Creta Star Hotel offers all inclusive holidays, including all meals, and there is also an Adults Only Hotel, the Creta Royal. In the area there are also a couple of villas with a private pool for rent (see below).

Hotel Corali beach is located only 40 metres from the sandy beach of Scaleta, 11 km east of Rethymnon. The hotel lounge area hosts several games and a billiards table. Corali Hotel also provides guests with an outdoor pool, and a beach bar and a restaurant as well as umbrellas and sun beds. Each room is equipped with refrigerator, air condition, satellite TV, balcony with sea view or mountain view and parking area. Public bus service connects the hotel with Rethymnon and Iraklion every half hour
