The southwest of Crete with its hills and mountains is the most green and on of the most undevelopped and quiet parts of Crete, with pine tree forests, extremely old olive trees, small mountain villages and lots of small Byzantine churches which are (still) most of the times opened for the public. It's a good area for finding peace and for making walks. In the extreme south are some good beaches and nice villages like Sougia and Paleochora.
