Sparti is a small island that lies east of the larger island of Lefkas or Lefkada. It is not far from the coast of Lefkas, in between Lefkas and the mainland of Greece. Like the slightly more southerly island of Skorpios ("Onassis island") Sparti is privately owned by the Onassis family. Onassis bought the island for his son and he started with the construction of an airport and a resort where he wanted to help disadvantaged children.
After the death of Onassis the island came into the hands of Christina Onassis and after her death it was the private property of her daughter Athina Roussel.
