The Varsamonero monastery in situated in southern Crete and can be reached via a exit just before the village of Vorizia as you follow the route from Agia Galini - Apodoulou - Platanos - Lochria - Kamares - Vorizia. It is about 10 minutes drive from this exit to the monastery and the Agios Phanourios church. The road to the monastery has since been asphalted. Of the monastery itself is not much left and only the church is remains. There are no more monks living on the site. Unfortunately it was closed when we wanted to go there. In the church there are very beautiful 14th and 15th century murals.
