Quarter by Quarter Goals for Math

These are the skills that are assessed each quarter.  During each quarter we also work on goals that will be assessed later.

First Quarter

Number Sense

  • Model numbers up to 10

  • Count sets of objects up to 10

  • Rote count to 15

Geometric Concepts

  • Identify triangles, rectangles, circles

  • Show and use directional and positional words

Problem Solving/Measurement

  • Name days of the week

Second Quarter

All first quarter goals, and;

Number Sense

  • Model numbers up to 20

  • Count sets of objects up to 20

  • Read and write numerals up to 10

  • Compare and order sets of numbers up to 10

  • Use ordinals (1st-5th)

  • Rote count to 30

Geometric Concepts

  • Build, draw, and name triangles, rectangles, circles

Patterns and Relationships

  • Create and extend patterns with actions, words and objects

  • Sort by given rule 

Problem Solving/Measurement

  • Describe likenesses and differences between objects

  • Name seasons

Third Quarter

All first and second quarter goals, and;

Number Sense

  • Model numbers up to 30

  • Count sets of objects up to 30

  • Read and write numerals up to 20

  • Compare and order sets of numbers up to 20

  • Use ordinals (1st-10th)

  • Share equally between two people and explain

Geometric Concepts

  • Identify, build and name spheres and cubes

  • Compare shapes

  • Puzzles

Patterns and Relationships

  • Sort by own rule

Problem Solving/Measurement

  • Name months of the year

Fourth Quarter

All first, second and third quarter goals, and;

Number Sense

  • Read and write numerals up to 30

  • Compare and order sets of numbers up to 30

  • Estimate quantities fewer than or equal to 10

  • Recognize equivalence up to 10

Problem Solving/Measurement

  • Solve problems and share solutions

Data Collection

  • create and discuss graphs as group
