"A BIG DAY"
This Friday evening will be a milestone for us, so to speak. Previously I had mentioned that we were planning on designing, and donating, a memorial plague to Congregation Ner Tamid from the donations made to the Harlan S Friedberg Memorial Fund. The plague has been made and is now hanging on a wall in Congregation Ner Tamid's sanctuary. At this point, the plague is void of nameplates. Tonight things will be different. Friend/Rabbi Harold Caminker has graciously accepted our request to lead services this evening and to do the 'official' dedication of the memorial plague. The top two plates on this plague will be very special to us. The very first one will be the one with Harlan's name on it. The one below Harlan's will be for Harlan's grandfather, Harold B Schwartz, for whom Harlan was named. These two plates, as well as the plague, will be the main focus of this evening's service. To make this service even more special is the fact that members from both our shuls/synagogues/temples, Congregation Beth El Binah as well as Ner Tamid will be present! What more could we possibly ask for?!
What makes this evening difficult, yet pleasant at the same time, is that this will be a true reminder of Harlan's passing. Having cremated him and not burying his ashes, we have had no place to go to actually mourn his passing. Sure, we have his ashes but there is no grave for us to visit. With this memorial plague, and his name engraved on a plate on it, we will now have a place to go to mourn his passing. Yes, it will be difficult for us to view this reminder at least once a week. It will also, hopefully, bring some closure to his passing which I feel I have been missing for so long. Making this webpage, being a member of My Mom Is a Survivor as well as our grief support group, Helping & Healing, have helped quite a bit but I think this will make the biggest impact on me/us.
