~WELCOME~
~MARDI
& MARK'S WEDDING~
~AUGUST
11, 2001~
This
is a day we all won’t soon forget! It started out dark and rainy
but ended up absolutely beautiful!!
You
see, this was the day Mardi and Mark decided to become husband and wife.
The wedding was held at Delaney Vineyards in Grapevine, Texas and the grapevines
were in bloom to make the day even more perfect. When we first arrived,
it was drizzling but I was sure it would stop and, as expected, it soon
did!
Everyone
was in attendance. A special table was set for Harlan, Penny, and
Dad. The Chupah was Mardi’s Tallit from her Bat Mitzvah draped across
two simulated wood oil wells. Since the wedding was scheduled prior
to sundown on Saturday, Shabbat, we had a Havdallah Service, led by our
good friend and Rabbi Bruce Gottlieb, to ‘bring an end to the day’.
Immediately
following the Havdallah Service, Mardi changed into her gown and waited
outside for her cue to come inside for the bridal processional. Chairs
were set up inside the Grand Barrel Room of the winery and everyone waited
in anticipation for the arrival of the bride and her parents.
The
ceremony was beautiful, with both Mardi and Mark breaking glasses to symbolize
the fragility of human happiness. Just as the sun went down, we all
went outside for a special balloon launch. The helium-filled balloons
each had a message that they were from a very special wedding ceremony
and they were sent off to all the family members and friends who were no
longer around to witness this most sacred event.
The
balloon launch was the highlight of the evening, we discovered upon viewing
the wedding pictures. You see, Harlan was standing among those of
us releasing balloons! Daryl was the one who saw him and pointed
him out to the rest of us. It was so special to have him there since,
if it hadn’t been for Harlan, Mardi and Mark would have never met one another!
Tables
and chairs were set up after the ceremony with bubbles, flowers and M&Ms,
for Mardi and Mark, on all the tables. The M&Ms were a big hit
with the young as well as the older
guests
. . . as were the bubbles! When it was time for Mardi and Mark to
say goodbye, we all gathered outside and blew bubbles at them.
Oh,
I almost forgot one other thing! Daryl said that while Mardi and
Mark and Randy and I were dancing, he felt the presence of Harlan and Penny
on the dance floor as well. How I wish we could have gotten a picture
of that!
