Chapter 44
“I would feel better about your going if you were armed,” 17-year-old Katrina said as she watched Xenritha pack. “I know, it’s not allowed. But isn’t staying alive worth breaking a few rules for?”
“Katrina,” Xenritha warned.
“I know how Vazigo died. I can’t help worrying. Of course Vader won’t be there to kill you, but what if it is a trap set by someone else?”
“You, Cha-Lee, and I have spent days looking into that possibility. We have seen every moment of what happened at the Tri and what will most likely happen. It is safe and even if it isn’t, you know I am not an easy one to beat.”
“But that’s just it. Even if it isn’t a trap, what about hunters? What if you’re hurt badly and no one is there to help you?”
“Then I will die,” Xenritha said flatly. “Whether I have access to a weapon changes nothing. I cannot use one against a hunter. Should it be absolutely necessary that I fight, in any other manner, the Tri will have a supply of weapons just as we do here. Do not worry so much, Katrina.”
She nodded and followed him out of the green wing and to where the Caminees waited in the common area. They said their goodbyes and wished him luck on his mission before watching him walk away.
“It is the price we pay for being the only full Tri,” Cha-Lee said.
“The Calenandon should not be traveling alone. One of us should have gone with him, at the very least.”
“He went so neither of us would have to go. It is something he volunteered for.”
“I would have gone. You know I am much better at masking myself now.”
“But you are not prepared to teach other Zanespots, Katrina. You could not find them on your own either. You have learned much, but you are still far from equaling Xenritha.”
“I know,” Katrina admitted. “I just feel useless, sitting here while he goes off.”
“We will help him find those of that Tri so that he may come home to us all the sooner,” Cha-Lee patted her shoulder reassuringly.
