Chapter 55

Of nine Zanespots, only three were human. Four were female and two held no gender. One could only breathe in water, one required a methane atmosphere, and two complained about the gravity of the chosen meeting place.

The world was covered in jungle and tall marble pillars circled the landing pad where three ships were parked. A pillar-lined walkway led to a towering building with smooth marble walls and a flat, vegetation-covered roof. A rectangular doorway was black and dark, tall enough to easily accommodate three wookiees standing on one another and wide enough for a standard Corellian Corvette to easily fly in.

The nine moved together, stopping to look distrustfully into the hard uncertainty of the blackness.

“How do we know this is the correct place?” a Zanespot of the present, an Ithorian female, asked.

“We all feel that it is,” Xenritha answered, the first to step forward. He disappeared instantly.

“It looks just so warm and inviting,” the youngest of the nine said dryly before following him in.

Three stepped in next, moving almost as one. Katrina went next, alone. Cha-lee and the final two came last, appearing out of the darkness and into a huge, fully lit chamber.

The walls were perfectly smooth and highly polished, reflecting the light of the nine torches hanging about. The ceiling was open but for a deep border. From inside, the outside of the doorway appeared deep in darkness.

“Grand but simple,” the Ithorian observed.

“How very right,” Cha-lee said, awed.

“We join in a circle now,” the translator droid for the wookiee zanespot, zanespot of the future, announced.

“No, three circles,” Katrina corrected without knowing why.

“Yes,” Xenritha agreed. “Each Tri together.”

Three sets of three stood together, touching hands, tentacles, paws, and skin.

“Concentrated,” someone murmured.

“On what?” the boy asked belligerently.

“Guardian,” the translator answered.

There was a soft moan somewhere as a pale blue light appeared like a thread pulling out of their heads. It twined around itself in the center of each Tri before shooting up toward the roof. Even as it burst out of the skylight, thin threads of light continued to escape them.

They turned and twisted, snaking around each individual before meeting and lassoing a trio. In groups of three, all nine beings were lifted from the ground and pulled through the open roof and into a blinding white light.

Instantly, they were again standing on the solid floor. The walls glowed with strange designs and a chair and being sat against one wall now, but it was the same building. It had to be.

“You have all done well,” the being, a dark haired humanoid male boomed happily, holding his hands out wide.
