Chapter 57
Cha-lee, Xenritha, and the ship their Tri arrived were all that remained on the landing pad when a dazed Katrina walked out of Guardian’s temple. The two men stood at the base of the ship’s ramp, watching her curiously.
“Are you alright?” Xenritha asked cautiously as she slowly approached, her face pale and her eyes glassy.
When she didn’t answer, Cha-lee took her by the shoulders and demanded, “Katrina, what is wrong?”
Her arms wrapped about her midsection and she closed her eyes, saying simply, “I don’t feel well.”
She laid down as they lifted off and took to hyperspace. Cha-lee chose to stay at the ship’s controls as Xenritha limped back to check on her.
“It has been a big day,” Xenritha observed, sitting on the floor beside the couch she rested on. “A very big day.”
“What did Guardian say to you?” Katrina whispered.
“Something similar to what we all heard, as far as I can tell. It is good to be whole again, she said, and then went on to thank me and such.”
“He-She-Guardian gave you a choice in gifts?”
“No,” he shook his head slowly. “She knew what I wanted most and so it was. I nearly cried right there.
“I spoke to each as they exited. Two would tell me nothing, but, as far as I know, none were given choices. What did you choose from?”
“It doesn’t matter now.”
“What did you choose, then?”
“Something I have no right to.”
“Katrina,” he called sternly.
“I am pregnant, Xenritha,” she answered at last, tears in her eyes. “It was wrong of me. The time came and went so quickly that it was gone before I knew what I was thinking. He took it out of my head and there was a flash of light and it was done.”
