11.30.02, 1:46 am Well, we got back a little while ago from The Ring. It was pretty freaky. We went cause Aiko really wanted us to see it, cause it's based on a Japanese story and movie. If I have nightmares tonight, I won't be surprised. But then again, I didn't actually 'see' the scary parts, if you wanna get all technical. I mean, I heard them, and the screaming and stuff, cause I had my eyes closed. Did I mention I hate scary movies. Maybe it's just cause I have an overactive imagination, but I really really really don't like them. Really. But the best part of the whole night was when the trailer for LOTR came on, Tom got really confused because apparently through the whole time of talking about seeing The Ring and getting movie tickets for The Ring, he thought we were actually going to see LOTR. So the trailer for LOTR comes on, and Tom's all like, 'well that's silly, showing a trailer for the movie we're about to see!' and I tried to explain it to him, but he really really didn't understand until the movie actually started, and then he was like, 'wait! This isn't Lord of the Rings!!' And I was like, 'way to go, brainiac.' Ah, good times... Well, only 16 more days till I go home!!! Yay! I'm so excited cause I only really spent about 2 weeks at home all summer, including the half a week I was there from graduation to flying to NYO, and the week and a half I was home inbetween NYO and moving to TO. Which I spent tying up loose ends, packing, etc. So I'm really looking forward to just going home. Of course, I'll have to go through all the stuff I left lying around in my room, go through clothes and stuff and figure out what I want to take back here with me, and what I want to give away. And pack all my shit up in boxes to sit in the basement until I'm bigger...... But hey, Christmas AND my birthday! What could be better! I mean, 18. That's like, pseudo-legal. I'm legally and adult, I can vote, decide the leader of my country, but I am somehow not mature enough to embibe alcohol. Those crazy lawmakers. Maybe I'll vote in the Marijuana party. Down with Chretien, in with Dope!!! KATYA 11.29.02, 4:25 pm Well, I went to the Lord of the Rings:The Two Towers Exhibit at the ROM today. It was pretty damn cool, but would have been cooler if you were allowed to take pictures. I got a few sly ones in on the side, but I felt really bad when I did, and got all shaky, cause I'm such an honest person. I mean, it was quite spectacular, especially Fagorn Forest and the Dead Marsh, and the inner chamber of Orthanc. They had everyone's costumes, and sets, and the trailer running on lots of flat screen tvs in every room. Kind of annoying. There not really allowed to show the movie, so you just have to watch the stupid trailer loop over and over again. I mean, we paid $12 to go and look at costumes and props!!! We're sold!!! We're already planning on going to the movie!! We really really don't need to see the trailer over and over and over and over. But anyhoo, if the sets that I saw today are any indication, The Two Towers is gonna be very awsome. And now, back to the real world. It's into the busy Xmas season already. I need to get my viola appraised for insurance, and the people at Remenyi told me that in order to appraise it, they'll need it for a couple of days, so I should leave it over a weekend or something. Except my weekends are all not full, but I do need my viola. And I need it every day during the week too. I mean, we have an orchestra week next week, so I kinda need my viola. And then it's end of term concerts the next week, and viola masterclass with Kim Kashkashian that weekend, and then I fly home. It's impossible!!! But on a side note, I finally figured out what to get Dad for Xmas. I had no clue, but then it came to me!!! Like and inpiration! Now I just have to figure out what to get Graeme for his BDay. I could have gotten him a $5 LOTR chocolate bar today, but I was too cheap..... KATYA 11.23.02, 1:43 pm Some sad news: the awsomely cool prince I met in Japan this summer, Prince Takamodo, died after playing squash with the Canadian ambassador at the embassy in Tokyo. KATYA 11.17.02, 6:34 pm I forgot to add that I was thinking about my Xmas wish list, and basically I don't need anything except a box o sox and money. I only have 6 pairs of sock, I don't know how, and I'm a big fan of the box o sox sport socks from Costco, and I need a cell phone, for which I need the startup cash. So my Xmas wish list is now as follows: Box O Sox from Costco Money Anything else is something I don't REALLY need. Alrighty then. ttfn. KATYA 11.17.02, 5:59 pm Well, I've been meaning to update for ages!! We had orchestra week, and the Mahler went quite well. On Friday afternoon in between the dress rehearsal and the concert, a bunch of us went to see Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets which was super super good. Harry Potter is so cool. Sadly, I only saw 2 trailers of movies that I might actually go see. One was Lord of the Rings, which I am of course definatly going to see, and the other one was some stupid comedy/coming of age thing and the only reason I'd go see it is cause Colin Firth is in it. But yeah. And the movie was LONG, but it didn't feel long when watching it. It started at 2:45 and we didn't get out till like 20 to 6. And I had to go home and change into my concert clothes and get back to North York for the concert at 8. So I didn't stay through the credits and missed the little bit at the end, and ran to the subway. I ran down the stairs and a train came and I jumped on. At St. Clair I jumped off the train and ran all the way to the streetcar bay, where a streetcar was sitting there and I jumped on, and then it closed it's doors and left. At St. Clair West station I jumped off the streetcar and caught the Vaughan bus that pulled up. And then I got off the bus at Wychwood and ran the block to our house. Good thing I didn't have my viola with me(I left it in North York) cause I probably wouldn't have been able to run as fast. I was able to do the hour commute in about 25-30 mins. whooee. So the concert was good, but I couldn't go to the afterconcert pary cause it was at the Madison Pub and they told us ahead of time that they'd be carding. So instead some of us underagers went over to someones house for beer and pizza and gossiped about people. It was good. And then on Saterday I basically sat around in my pyjamas watching movies on the computer until about 5:30 when I left with Cath because we were supposed to meet this band called The Bicycles that we sometimes play with, but it took freakin forever so I had to leave Catherine on the Queen streetcar and backtrack to Steves for a viola supper. Only the eastbound Bloor/Danforth subway was down from St. George to Woodbine, cause the TTC likes to piss us off, and so I was stranded at St. George. Luckily I ran into Caitlin and Chris and we shared a cab to Steve's. I got home at like 1 am last night, and Tegan was staying over so we stayed up talking, and then Trevor came home, who is also staying here this weekend, and regailed us with stories of people who had been caught having sex in the practice rooms at the Conservatory. Including a really stupid singer and the head janitor guy. Ew. Anyhoo, it was good times, and we stayed up till about 2:30. Then this morning we had to get up at 8:30 to get Tegan to the bus station to catch her bus back to Guelph. Then we went to the Con (Catherine and I) and practiced, watched the Santa Clause Parade which went down Bloor right in front of the Con, and practiced some more. Then we went to this crappy concert that was manditory, left and intermission, and I came home. I am now doing laundry with my last 10 dollars, because I have absolutly no clean clothes left. Well, it's food time now, and I have to call the folks once my laundry's done. Oh! and it snowed here! It's all pretty and white, but annoyingly slushy cause it's really wet snow, and my shoes are completely soaked. KATYA 11.10.02, 11:13 pm Well, I've thought of two more thing to add to my list: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3 DVDs and a full-size Saskatchewan flag. The DVDs would of course have to be pre-ordered from somewhere like Chapters or Future Shop as they aren't actually released until January 7th, and the flag I saw at WalMart in Stoon before I left in August for like $15. So we went to a CFL game today - The Toronto Argonauts vs. the SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS!! WHOOOOO! GO RIDERS!!! YA SASKATCHEWAN!!! Of course the Riders lost though. I mean, they were up at halftime, but then I think they smoked too much dope during halftime, cause they didn't score anything during the whole 2nd half, and Toronto got like, 3 touchdowns, and Saskatchewan was just like, 'Hey dude, it's cool, let's just chill while you run by me with the football.' Argh. It was so annoying! The the game was fun. I yelled lots, and that made it even funner. Everyone else I went with just sat there and watched the game, but c'mon, how boring is that! I mean, football sucks to begin with, so you gotta liven it up. My favorite 'cheer' was the one where I yelled that they played like a bunch of thalydomide babies. Politically incorrect, but good. And in the last quarter I was just resorting to begging the Riders to please please please not suck. But they just didn't listen. Next, I think I should go to a Leafs game, but I'll cheer for the leafs cause there's no NHL team from Sasktchewan. Maybe I'll go if they play the Penguins, so I can see Mario Lemieux in action. Eat that, Cayley!! MOOMOOHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! KATYA 11.08.02, 1:29 am Ugh. The start of another Orchestra Week. Well, I actually updated the site on Sat. I moved all the old entries from like May, into the 'archives' and I did write this big long update, but then Tom's computer froze, and I had to run to a rehearsal, so I lost it. I got a Halloween card from my family, and my kittons! And mommy sent me Sun-Rype Energy To Go bars, which I am now addicted to. And I'm very proud of myself, cause I've gone rollerblading every day this week, for at least 30 mins at a time. I even took my blades to school today cause I didn't have any time during the day to come home and blade, and I went blading down Queen's Park past the legislature, and then back around and down some side streets. It was pretty chilly today, but the weatherman on TV said that the cold front has dissipated and it's gonna be warm this weekend. I kinda wish it would snow though. One bad thing about the big city - it really doesn't snow, and when it does, it just melts right away. So, as I mentioned, it's the start of an orchestra week. We're playing Mahler 3, and for the next week, starting bright and early tomorrow morning, I have to make the hour commute to North York. So I need to go to the library tomorrow and return my old books and pick up some new ones. For the loooooong train ride. And Cath's bringing her running stuff and I'm bringing my blades, and we're gonna go exercise on our supper break. And there's some yoga workshop too. We'll see how that goes. Well, tis the season, and so I've consequently started compiling a Christmas wish list. Now, they're pretty much reasonable things I think, except my one manditory thing that I really really really want but know I'll never get in a million gazillion years. So my list so far is as follows: LOTR DVDs (the 4 disc collecters edition set, or just the normal old 2 disc boring set) new wheels for my rollerblades (you gotta see mine to believe it. My front ones are so worn down they're not quite even wheels anymore) Wide Mouth Mason's new CD, Rained Out Parade Michelle Branch's CD new strings (maybe.... I don't really need them now, I know I will eventually down the road, but they're quite expensive and if I get them as a present and they cost an arm and a leg, and then I don't get anything else, that would really really suck) $$$$$$$$$$ (this one is a given, I'm always happy with money, and I really need it. Goddam, Toronto is so freakin expensive) and.....Apple Powerbook G3 or iBook laptop w. CD-RW and DVD-ROM Anyhoo, I should probably get some beauty rest now. Live long and prosper. KATYA |
