Gunther was formed in September / October of 2000, when Joe Murphy and Dan Norton were looking to do something meaningful with their pitiful lives.  Sarcastically, they invited our "good" friend Brian Dwyer into the "band" at lunch.  He didn't think they were being serious, probably because they weren't actually, but oh well.  After a couple practices with Brian, they decided a bassist was needed.  Through some connections, Dan, Joe, and Brian, enlisted the help of the prodigious bassist known as Chris Wood (the fat one).  Chris Wood was not yet in high school, yet his excessive musical talent proved that he should be in the band.  His talent exceeded that of the others in the band.  With Chris on board, Gunther was complete.  It took them about a year to get their act together, until 2002, where at the Braintree High School "Battle of the Bands", they defeated Stupid Plastic and Art of Defiance.  They have progressed further since then, working steadily in the studio and recording a demo CD (release date pending) including tracks such as "Nothing to Say", "Reality", and "Shift".  Over the summer of 2002, the band will continue to work increasingly on the actual release of the Gunther LP.  Their diverse sound is that of a unique rock, Incubus-Bush-AAFesque, type, but in the words of Chris Wood... "We're definitely NOT Emo."

Dan Norton: May 31st, 1986, a birthday shared with the God-like John Bonham, Dan emerged.  Dan is not really sure about how long he's been playing the drums, but his passion for playing developed upon the end of 8th grade, upon the early formation  of a band, with Joe Murphy.  His talent steadily increased, as did his quality of equipment, and his uniqueness of style immediately makes Dan stand out from other drummers.  Many of his influences include mainly his uncle Kevin Norton, Travis Barker, Abe Cunningham, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Mike Cosgrove (of AAF), Neil Peart and the drummer from Lostprophets (he doesn't know his name).  His taste in music is extremely diverse, from Deftones to the Ataris to Thursday, spanning both Punk, Emo Punk, Rock, Metal, Alternative, Classic Rock, Ska, and the progressive rock stylings of Rush. His interests are drumming (obviously), performing in any way, dancing in a bear suit, playing video games, and watching lots and lots of movies.

Brian Dwyer: Although Brian (aka Dickey Johnson) had never actually been a singer when he invited himself into the band, Dan and Chris knew he was perfect because he fit into the strange appearance pattern of the band because he was a tall, goofy bastard. Although his beginning in the band was rough for Brian, his passion was fueled with memories of his rough childhood while growing up in the rough streets of Braintree in a middle class, blue-collar family. However, in time, the sound of the band began to grow from scream-filled lyrics to actual singing (well sort of). Brian has been compared to Brandon Boyd of Incubus and Dryden Mitchell of Alien Ant Farm in terms of sound (not skill). His musical tastes include Led Zeppelin, The Who, Cream, Deftones, Incubus, Alien Ant Farm, and not Emo. The most important thing Brian wants everyone to know about the band is that they should take us seriously but know that the members are not always serious.

Joe Murphy:  The shortest, yet oldest in the band.  Joe also came from Dan's Mom's vagina.  His main purpose for the band (besides playing guitar) is to keep the band together, which is a hard task because of chris.  He has been playin guitar for about two years.  He was in an earlier band with dan, but that went nowhere.  Joe is not the most unique guitarist (according to chris) but he can do his job.  Some of Joe's major influences are Jimi Hendrix, Kirk Hammet (of Metallica), Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and more.  Joe likes music from the Deftones to Led Zeppelin* to Green Day.  He agrees with the emo-hating Chris on the topic of emo-hating.  Joe would like to thank anyone that says they don't suck.

*Thanks Brian

Chris Wood: Chris is the youngest member of Gunther, but only by one year. He was born on April 14, a day very foreboding of Chris' evil and cruelty in life. On April 14, Abraham Lincoln was shot. It is also the day the Titanic sank. On a brighter note, it is also the day that Bob Dole's arm became paralyzed. Sweet! When Joe and Dan needed a bassist, another kid a year younger than them, Tom king, introduced them to Chris. Chris sat down, played Anesthesia (the 5 minute Metallica bass solo off of Kill 'Em All) and was immediately in the band. That's when they started to get good. It is also when everyone else in the band gained much self confidence, since Chris is incredibly fat, grotesque, and ugly. Oh well
