Camp Ruam Chit Chai, located just outside the town of Sakon Nakon in northeast Thailand was the home of the 809th Engineer Battalion from (DATE) to (DATE).
The following pictures were donated by (Sp/5) Raymond Rice, who was a member of the advance team from
C Company, 809th
Engineer Battalion with the mission to set up a base camp that would become
Camp Ruam Chit Chai.

| In the beginning there was nothing but Jungle, snakes, bugs...basicicaly, all those things, dark and creepy, that keep you awake at night. |

Well, we took a couple of DT 24 doziers and went to work, little creatures scattered everywhere! |
We did have to use some maunal labor......
A couple of gas powered chain saws would have been nice |

This was a dirty, muddy, hot job....but someone had to do it. |
| Sure wish there had been an ESSO or Shell station around then |

Construction continued and improvements were made. |
| Before too long, the camp started taking shape. We slept in tents prior to this. |
