Welcome to our mansion. I hope you find it comfortable. If you'll come and sit in the dining room, we can have some tea.

It's truly amazing and all. You know, this whole war. I never really supported men killing each other. Have you heard about John? Oh, he's a sweet dear. He lives in town with his sister. He comes out every Thursday to talk to me. We sit at the lake for hours and hours. We're so very in love. Sometimes when father is with friends, John and I will go down to the lake and talk for hours. It's quite lovely. We talk about everything. The war, slavery, love...marriage. We were never really serious about it but I know he probably is now. The war seems closer than ever and we can't sit and do nothing. Even though we are doing so much with freeing the slaves. Did I tell you John helps too? He's the one that guides them along the path until the next house. I shelter them in hiding places around the plantation.

Well, all this talk has made me tired. Would you like to stay the night?

Yes, thank you.

No, that's alright.
