1. JOHN¹ JOLLEY died in Pitt County, North Carolina. He married ELIZABETH.

Notes for JOHN JOLLEY:

Pitt County Wills were lost in the court house fire of 1859. Fortunately the land records were in a different building. John's estate was given out in seven parts. We were able to find the deeds for four sons and one daughter. Willy died shortly after his father -- and his brothers sold his 1/7th part. We know the remaining two were girls from the 1790 census.

2. ISHAM² JOLLEY (JOHN¹) was born 1773 in Pitt County, North Carolina, and died 1868 in Wilson County, Tennessee. He married ELIZABETH JAMES in Pitt County, North Carolina, daughter of THOMAS JAMES.

Notes for ISHAM JOLLEY:

Information on Isham Jolley's parents and children - and also on Hancel Bryan Jolley Sr.'s family were researched and provided by Mary L. Henke (mlhenke@teleport.com). Isham's father's name was found in land distribution in Pitt County, North Carolina. Isham sold out his Pitt County holdings in 1815, moved to Wilson County, Tennessee and bought land there in 1818 -- but was missed on the 1820 census. He is crecorded in census records of Pitt County in 1800 and 1810 and in Wilson County, Tennesse in 1830 through 1860 census records. Isham's istate recrd sale was recorded May 14, 1868 in Wilson County, Tennessee. Additional information was found in Wilson County Tennessee Marriages and Cemetery records.

Elizabeth was a sister of Sarah James who married Thomas Ames. Thomas James left his legacy to his daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Isham Jolley in Pitt County, North Carolina.

John moved to Texas and founded the village of Jollytown there in Williamson County, Texas.
