Hamster Poem
Horatio my pet hamster
is a furry little bouncer
He runs in his wheel
Makes a bit of a squeal
Then goes for a walk on the counter!

Hamsters
Hamsters are fun,
When the day is done.
A quick little mammal,
Brown and furry.
They are never in a hurry.
Every day they like to sleep,
When they wake up,they go'peep,peep'
Hamsters go in a ball,
They go rolling up the hall.
I like hamsters,
They are sweet.
From little nose,
To tiny feet.

Hammy TimeThe hamster stands up on her two back feet, obviously sensing my eyes upon her. She appears to sniff the air. Losing interest, the hamster crouches back down and resumes her task of cleaning her soft reddish fur. As she is working, her fur becomes ruffled. She thoroughly cleans her whole body by licking her paws and running them through her fur. Now that everything is in order, she scrambles over to the wheel, which she instantly leaps upon. Making the whole cage shake slightly, the hamster burns off all that extra energy she accumulated during her day’s rest. She pauses, jumping out of the wheel and running to the other side of the cage. She looks around, and, seeing that that everything is in its rightful place, resumes her exercise routine. A few minutes pass and the hamster decides that she has had enough. She runs over to her half-full water bottle and gets a nice, refreshing drink. Darting down her tube to the lower level, she checks to see that her storage of food is intact. Satisfied, she nibbles on a piece of corn, but soon decides that her break has been long enough. The hamster is back on her wheel again in a flash.

A Furry Friend
I have a furry friend,
With bright little eyes.
She cuddles up beside me,
As I stroke her soft sides.
Her little feet tiptoe,
Across me here and there.
But she is so very tiny,
It's hard to tell she's there!
She's a little hamster,
For witch I will always care.
She's my little furry friend,
And I will love her to the end.

Amy Ritchie, owner of the hamster below, says "His name is TLC because he only has three legs, and he needs tender loving care!"
