Hamster Escaping Acts

My cute little hamster Herman, managed to get out of his cage one night, he wandered into the ONLY room in the house that could get him under the floor boards. I knew where he was because food had vanished throughout the day. So I sat and waited untill he got active. I heard him scratching when i rustled food, and my dad said to save him me and my brother were alowed to open the floorboard. As we where hammering away (very loudly!) Herman popped up on his own, and wandered toward me (and i didn't see!) Then I saw him and started crying again. He had this expression on his face sayin "can you keep it down a bit"!!-Andie and Herman

One day when i cleaned my hamsters cage i put to much wood chips in it (i guess). That night before i went to bed i was playing with these Civil War figures and i left them on my desk where my hamster (Harvey) slept in a cage with a little house about 6 in. high. Since the week was a hot one i left off the top off.
Then at 1 o'clock in the morning he climbed on top of his house and jumped on a pillow that was on my desk (I think). He then walked over to a Union Soldior and started to attack him biting his legs apart. So i guess he came from the south somewhere.

My first hamster, Hammy, liked to run around my house. One time I came home to find she wasn't in her cage. I cried. We could'nt find her for 3 days. But on the fourth day, I had just gotten out of the shower, and was in my room. Then I saw this little furball crawl out of my closet. I yelled Hammy, and that's the end of my story.

This is a story about how my hamster got loose the first day I got him...My mom came home and rang the doorbell, so I opened the door, and she said "We have a problem. You have your hamster, but he is out - in the car!" I ran outside to see if we could get him out. He was in-between the two front seats (which is were the emergancy brake is on my moms car) So we trying to find ways to get him out. We got a part of where he was open so we could see him. I put my hand in the opening to got him to get out of there. Then he was running all over the car trying to figuar out were to go , while I tried to get my hand out of where he was hiding. I finally got it out. Then I ran over to where he was I tried to grab him but he was moving too fast. Then he went under the seat and started cleaning, thats when I picked him up. This was the first time I got a good look at him. He has a gold head, a white stomach and a gold backend. I put him back in the box because he wouldn't sit still in my hands. and then I went up to my rom and put him in his cage. I named him Rascal. He is so cute, even though he still has some grease on him :-)

My hamster has been with me for about 5 months now. His name is Dracula, because when I bought him the lady told me he hadn't been handled much or had much attention. For the first couple weeks, I had some cute little marks on my hands from him! Now, he's happy sitting in my lap or roaming around his extensive maze of tubes... Anyways, my story.... I was staying at a friend's house for the night. I had checked on my hamster and left. Later that night, he escaped. I wasn't home, so I didn't know. My sister went to walk up the stairs to go to her room and their was little Dracula.... sitting calmly next to my 25 lbs. cat! I'm glad I didn't find him because I probably would have had a heart attack I love that hammy so much. He stays safely in his cage now.... Well, except for the one time we found him sitting in the middle of the bathroom looking all innocent... :0)

One day I came home from school and my dad said your hamster got out of it's cage and I've looked everywhere it's your turn now. So I looked and I looked but I could not find her. Well a few minutes later my sister came home from soccer and had to clean the steps and under some clothes my sister lifted up there was my hamster! I ran to get the ball I put her in and took her back to her cage. I was lucky that my hamster was found.

I have 3 of the craziest hamsters, which keep escaping from their tanks everynight, and ending up in bed, thus waking me up about 2-3 in the morning....

I am 22 yrs old and love hamsters.... I think that they have greatpersonality's and are the best pets... I am allergic to cats and somedogs... Anyway.. When I finally decided to buy a hamster.. I went andlooked all over for the hamster who would jump into my hand.
I went to the pet store in the mall (I know.. shame on me) just to look to get ideas on colors when I saw the tiniest, cutest little ball offluff in the world. Well I put my hand in the cage and the ball movedright into my hand. It was love at first sight. For both of us. When Igot her home I put her in the ball because she seemed anxious to move. She was so tiny she could not even make the ball go. I had to move theball around for her. Well I was cleaning my apartment when I hearcrying. It was the most pitiful sound I have ever heard. I lookeverywhere and then I saw that the ball....was EMPTY! She had gottenout. When I finally found her she was so scared she was sweating. Shegladly jumped into my hand. I cuddled her until she stopped shaking andput her in the cage.
That night I showed my fiance her and we realized that she washaving trouble drinking. Also.. She was so small that she could notclimb through the cage. I took her out and looked at her all over. I putmy finger up to her mouth and instead of biting she started sucking onmy finger.... The store had tried to ween her to soon. Tiny was still ababy.. When I took her to the vet.. They confirmed it.. Tiny was onlymaybe a few weeks old.. I had to bottle feed her and give her plenty ofvitamins.
My Tiny means the world to me.. She is so sweet and pretty Iput her on my christmas cards. Everyone who meets her falls in love. Soto all those caring hammie lovers out there...GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!

One dark and stormy winter night I was sleeping in my nice warm beddreaming of boogie men running after me when I felt something on my leg.I got real scared because in where I live there are all types ofspiders, snakes and scorpions. I sat up real slow and tried not to tensemy leg muscle. The thing didn't move. I decided it must have dissapearedso I layed back down. Right when I was almost asleep the thing movedagain. I sat up again slowly and this time began to lift the sheet. Ilifted the sheet and told my fiance' to turn the light on. So he did andthere was my little angel, TINY THE HAMSTER! I laughed and looked down.SHE HAD GOTTEN OUT OF BED AND DECIDED THAT HER CAGE WAS NOT WARM ENOUGHSO SHE CLIMBED INTO BED WITH ME! I thought it was just a quirk and wentto put her back in her cage. Tiny knows her way around the house realwell. The next time she got out (3 days later) my fiance caught her justbefore he sat on her in bed!

i have had 3 hamsters in my life, but 2 of them have passed away, but i still have this adorable little girl named coaco. my other 2 were named oreo (girl) and zipedydoodah (boy) they have never met. My old hamser oreo was coaco`s sister. zipadidoodah stars my story.....it was a beautiful spring day, and i was feeling so happy and i dicided i should make it happier so i went to hold zip, and he was gone! i went screaming upstairs to tell my mom, and you know what she said? "he will show up" i was so mad but i took her advise. So about three days later i went to do the landry, i took the clothes down and searched through the landry for white clothes, and there was zip, as healthy as he could be. "huh" i said and he just looked up at me.

My hamster Nathan Drew got out of his cage and we looked everywhere for himand then my little sister looked in her castle and he was asleep in the littlethrone.

Our hamster Crisco likes to escape from his very luxurious cage as oftenas he possibly can. Normally, he lives upstairs in our loft next to hisfriend, Nabisco. One evening, our dad opened the door to his study,and... there was Crisco! This may not seem odd until you realize thatthe study is across the house, and at the bottom of a long, steepeighteen step staircase! Poor Crisco had scrambled down all thosestairs just to see what was going on in the rest of the world.

I lost my hamster, Stormy, for exactly 2 weeks. I cried so much, everyday,in fact. Till one day, I was watching TV in my small studio, Stormy turnedup and walked across the room like nothing happened. She is still in agood condition although she lost her shine and a little bit skinny thanbefore. I suspected she had gone underneath the floor board and wanderingaround for some times there. It was the happiest day of my life....

Our hamster, Ben Jr is the result of the union between Ben and Sarah, ouradult hamsters. His name comes from the fact that he resembles his dad, with his cream coloured coat and black beady eyes.
One day Ben Jr decided to do a disappearing act. We looked high and low,but there was no sign of him. Then we heard a squealing sound coming fromthe toilet. Ben Jr had fallen into the toilet bowl!! Only his snout wasfloating pathetically above the water level. Without a moment'shesitation, we rescued him from his predicament. Poor Jr, he wasscreeching in fright and shivering from the cold. He remained still for usto dry his coat with a hair dryer.
The next morning, we took a worried peek at him. To our relief, he lookednone the worse and seemed to have forgotten all about his ordeal. As amatter of fact, he seemed even more energetic and curious than ever!!!

My name is Michelle and I just got a Teddy Bear Hamster a month or two ago.I named him Fluffy. He can bite his way threw any cardboard box. So when Igot him he tried to get out of the box! My dad and I made him a play penout of wood. He gets out of there sometimes to. He pulled down a cloth andclimbed up it.One day he climbed on his tissue box and got out. My mom anddad found him in the courner of my basement. My mom had old shorts so sheput thm in the pen. He likes to go in the pant leg or pocket. He likes tofeel safe and secure.

I have this adorable hamster named Andy, and she is a Golden hamster. I know, Andy is a boy name...but..WHO CARES??Well, one day when I was going to take Andy out, I found the cage dooropen and my hammy was nowhere in sight. We looked everywhere and relizeda scratching sound under the floor boards. Believe it or notwe actually dug holes in the walls, trying to get Andy out.We finallygot her out and she was so skinny!!!! But now she's okay and believeme...she's very cute!

One day I noticed my hamster, Cuddles, was not in her tube cage. Afterten minutes of examining the cage I noticed the sliding cage door wasslid open. I seached everywhere for her and finally saw her, with mycat! My cat, Buttercup, had backed Cuddles into a corner and had heldher there for almost twenty minutes! I picked up Cuddles and placed herback in the cage. She was fine not a scratch or bruise on her. Herpersonality wasen't hurt either. I was a very thankful towards my cat. I think my cat understood that I loved my hamster and wanted her tolive.

One day my cute hammie Henry 3rd escaped from his cage, I was suprisedas this had never happened before (unlike Henry 1st and 2nd) Anyway Iwas REALLY worried as his cage is on a high shelf and must have jumpeddown and hurt himself. The next day I found him sitting on the top of atelephone directory - it was so sweet!

When my family went to Florida everyone came exept my Dad because ofbuisiness. Well, my hamsters old cage had a hole that she squeezed out of andgot away. Then, she chewed a hole on the wall!!!!!!! Plus, She wedged herselfin between the cabinets so we call her Spider Hamster!!!

My Hamster Cleopatra (the Egypt Queen) didnīt want my to sent this but i still did when she was asleep. :) She wants to be a model or a Child Teacher. Once she escaped from her cage and i didn't find her anywhere. So i just went to bed. But the next morning i saw her and i put her in her cage. I was going to give her candy but she had already helped herself. All the candy was gone and she just looked at me like, "Sorry..."

I have a Hamster called Spam. She is named that because she once snuck intothe pantry closet where my dad had left an open can of SPAM. She sat inthere untill my dad came looking for the Spam and noticed her. We stillcan't get the smell off of her!

I have a female hamster named Teddra or as sometimes we call her Teddy. She use to escape from her old cage a lot. She would pop off the lid and getout, but she would never go far. I would always find her in my shoe or next to my TV. Teddra stays in my room. Well getting back to the subject. Everthing wasfine until a couple days ago I had placed her in my family's deck room and someone must have been peting her and didn't close the door right because the next day she was gone. I was worried but there was nothing I could do. Thankfully she came back. Now she has a new cage and it will be harder for her to get out.

My hamster Dagwood is really shy so i was trying to get him to be moreactive so I took his little house thing out of the cage and put it right ontop of my desk...he proceeded to crawl out of his house and explore, crawling on the keyboard, into the printer, the usual. My dog (she's reallysweet and wouldn't and doesn't ever hurt Dagwood) was sitting on my floorclose to mw which i at the time was at the computer (reading other stories really i swear) and I hear a little plop sound (my hamster is a dwarf and that made him harder to find). Then i looked on my desk and Dagwood was gone. Blondie, my dog, wasn't aware. Then i looked and saw that Dagwood was crawling on Blondie! Blondie is a small dog and she got totally freaked out so she ran on top of my bed. Dagwood fell right off of her and ran under my bed. This time Blondie wanted to see what was happening so she guarded one side of my bed and i guarded another. Again Dagwood crawled on Blondie and sent her on running away. Dagwood dashed into my closet and started crawling through all of my shoes and my old stuffed animals. I tried to grab him and he ran straight out of my fingers and under the bed again and then into my hands. :)

I have a hamster named Foo. She is the cuttest thing that you ever saw. Onenight when she slept upstairs in my room, she got out of her cage. In myDads bathroom we were replacing an air vent. Somehow Foo got into thebathroom and fell down the vent. The vent goes through the house and to thefurnace. UhOh!! Foo went through the entire furnace system. It took her 2days to do it, and I was so scared that I would never see her again. Onenight when I was asleep Mom and Dad heard a scratching sound coming from thefurnace. They took off the front of the bottom section of the furnace, andinside was Foo. She was just sitting on the floor waiting to be rescued. All Foo had was a scratch on her nose. She is one lucky hammy.

We got our hamster at Petco for free with a cage and we found out thatsomeone just dumped him there. So we took him home and fixed the cageand gave him a name. I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers so we couldn'tdecide with a name so we ended up with the name Hammie Gizmo. Hammiestays in my room, the first night he got out of his cage 2 times!
1. Hammie's cage has 2 cup at each end so he simply pushed out one of thecups and I found him in my book case!
2. Later that night after I secured both cups I thought there was no wayHammie could get out but I was wrong! In Hammie's cage there is aplastic playground and he climbed to the top of it and got out through ahole in the top so I had to tape an X across it!
But now his cage is fixed and there is no way he can get out! (Hopefully!)

I woke up one morning and my hamster Fluffy was missing. It scared me soooo bad. When i was about to leave for school my mom yelled, "Here she is!" She was asleep in the drawer in my moms room, and I still have no idea how she got in there.

My son has a teddy bear hamster named Chewy. Chewy is aptly named because he chews holes in everything including his cage. We have a S.A.M. setup with plastic connectors which he has been chewing since we got him. He has escaped a few times but always found close to his cage in large piles of food. The last escape was terible. Chewy chewed a large hole in a blue bubble and escaped while we were sleeping. We looked all day for him without success. We went to bed extremely sad. We have 2 cats who play with Chewy, but we never leave him alone with the cats so we were scared. The next morning I went to the bathroom and heard a scratching sound under the sink. I pried a boardloose and there was Chewy staring up at me, covered in this gooey dirty stuff. I was just so happy to see that he was okay, but was very worried about the stuffon his body. We called a vet that specializes in small animals and she said to clean it off and see how he does. Nothing would get the stuff off and Chewy was getting really agitated. I was frantic, finally I called a friend and she said that when her son got gum in his hair she used peanut butter and it came out. We tried it and it worked. Chewy was shell shocked by the time we returned him to his cage. He had also suffered an injury to his leg, the vet said just to watch him. Over the next week Chewy got stronger, his leg healed and he began to clean himself back to the fluffy little white ball of fluff that he was prior to that horrible day. He is now completely healed and back to his chewing self, without any further escapes. -Beth and Brad

I had a hamster named Ruthy. She had several litters of babies. And one day she got out...She usually was a hamster who never really liked to leave her cage unless her owner was around. Well she GOT OUT!! We looked everywhere for her. I even started crying, but then we heard scrating!!!! And there was Ruth behind the stove!!! My step dad said that if we had turned on the stove, she would have been toasted hamster!!
-Nikkie, Age 13
In memory of Ruthy!! 1992-1995 I love U always!!

A few weeks ago my hammy, Snicker, got out of her cage at maybe 1.00 in the morning. then a few minutes after she got out she decided to see how my bed was. So she started up my leg scratching all the way, witch woke me up. Ever sense I've keep her in her cage.

My hamster Snowball got out one time and i looked everywhere for her but wecould not find her but finally after a hour i found her in the hamster foodbag then i put her back in her cage. Then the next day when i went asleepover my sister had her out and lost her in the livingroom and when icame back home and she wasn't in her cage then she told me that she losther we looked everywhere then my mom found her in her laundry basket, shefound her when she took her dirty clothes to the laundry room. Well we havenot lost her again yet i hope we don't again.

I once had a Teddy Bear hamster named "Pickles." She was very friendly, andloved to be held and sung to...One afternoon, I was sitting downstairs, watching t.v. and talking to my mother, when I noticed a movement on thestairs. I walked over to investigate, and there was my hammy, coming downto find me! She must have been lonely, and went looking for company. Shealways was a bit of an escape artist...but as always she sat and waited forme to pick her up. She never tried to get away from me, so I guess she justneeded a change of scene once in a while.

One day, I took my hammie Larry down into our basement. I put in some cusions to play with and completly forgot about him! I was so busy in building a maze for him. I was so scared! I was extra scared because my basement has steps leadinginto the lounge and steps in the lounge that lead to the hall way that lead to the front door!!! I felt all panicky and called my sister Jenna to help me. Jenna found him in her first look in the lounge under the couch. It was so sweet!
-Tessa Barratt, age 12

one day i left my hammy Rommey in his ball and i totally forgot about him untill my mom asked where my RAT was so after telling her that he was a hammster i went to look for him i looked down to the basement and ther he was bouncing of the stairs braking his brand new ball

My brother and I both have a hamster. One for each of us. Mine issoooooooooooo adorable, but back to the point. This is about my brothershamster. Well, one night, my brother was at his friend's house. My mom and Iwent in to give him a treat. He wasn't there! On his cage it opens at thetop, so what he did was he climbed up the side, did acrobactics across thetop hanging by his 2 front paws, and the rest of his body hanging below him. Well, when he got to the opening he pulled himself up and over, and then sliddown the metal bars to the ground. We looked all over for him. If he hadgone down the stairs, he would have had to fall down to the groung. Thisis because in between each step is a space. Well, my mom, my dad and I lookedall over him. We couldn't find him. It was late, and it was a school nightso we decided to look for him in the morning. We also decided to be verycareful when we got up in the night. Well, and around 11:30, my mom wassitting in bed reading, and she saw him scuttling out of her closet. I wasasleep. I got up in the night to see if he was in his cage. When I saw himthere, I figured my mom or dads must have found him and put him back. I twould be too hard for him to climb back in. The way we found out how heclimbed out, was because in the morninhg, we opened his cage and we sat there.Sure enough, the way that I explained before, was exactly what had happened. Neither he nor my hamster have not climbed out since.
P.S. We could tell that Sprite (the hamster) had been in the closet for awhile, because when my mom was cleaning out all the stuff on the floor in hercloset, she found little shreddings of wrapping paper, and this one had thatshe got when we went on vacation to Kawaii. And believe me the shreddingsweren't from no moth.

Here is my story about the great escape of my hamster, Hamlet. One morning Iwoke up to find that Hamlet had pushed his lid over just enough to get out ofhis tank. Of course I was immediately worried. We lived in an apartment and Ijust hoped that he didn't get under the door to someone else's apartment. I looked all over the bedroom, but could not find him there. I looked in the closet but all I found was some food stashed in my fiance's shoe. He wasn't in the living room or bathroom. The only place left to look in was the kitchen. The only trace of him I found in the kitchen was a pile of shredded kleenex and food. Obviously that was where he took a nap. By then I was pretty scared. Ilooked in the hallway of the apartment but could not find him. I was standingin the kitchen when I heard a noise. It sounded like it was coming from thewall. Finally I figured out where he was. The only problem was how was Igoing to get him out. He had somehow managed to get underneath my cupboards, but could not get out. We finally pried the baseboards off of the cupboardand there was a scared Hamlet looking at me. Of course it took a lot ofcoaxing and treats to get him out! Once he was out I noticed he had whitestuff all over him. We realized that he had been chewing on the sheet rock ina desperate attempt to free himself. That was the noise that I had heard. Ifhe hadn't of done that I don't know if I would have ever found him. Thankgoodness for small miracles! Hamlet is no longer with us, but I will foreverhave his wonderful memory and all of the wonderful pictures. Now I am keptbusy with my new hamsters, Romeo and Juliet. (We thought that went with thename Hamlet pretty well!)

Just early this morning, my mom and dad awoke to a squeaking sound from the kitchen at 6:09 AM. They went to investigate, and what they saw was our cat batting something around. Well, it was my golden hamster, Beaker! He had been trying to escape from his cage for a while, and I guess he somehow found a way out, even though I couldn't see how. Anyway, my mom grabbed the cat, and my dad tried to catch Beaker, who then ran under the refrigerator. My parents tried to lure him out with a treat, but he wouldn't come. He was scared out of his wits! Finally, they managed to get him to come, and as quick as they could, plopped him back in his cage. They told me just this morning when I woke up. He's lucky that he's o.k.
